Nurses Like Knitting

Hello from my recovery bed! I’m doing well so far and making sure to manage my hydration and pain levels. Fingers crossed I can continue to do well.

(Me before surgery)

I took my knitting with me to the surgery center. I knew it would keep me calm while I waited. I had no less than four nurses stop to admire my knitting while I was in pre-op!

They loved my colors and marveled that I could make my own socks. One nurse even tried to put in an order for gloves 😃

Time for a nap, I’ll check in later!

Time Out

I’m going to be taking a small break from posting for a couple of weeks. Later today I’m going to have my tonsils removed at 31 years old. I’ve just had too many health issues over the last year to continue to ignore the problem. This procedure is simple and easy but the recovery is rough for adults.

I’m still going to be knitting and I have a few scheduled blog posts coming up. But I think I’m going to take a time out from posting lest you get pain med induced nonsense. Entertaining as that might be I think I’ll save you from my misery.

I’ve got several easy garter and vanilla sock projects lined for bed knitting (if I even feel like it). I have my Mighty Rainbow Blanket and my Rainbow Bright Vanilla socks all ready to go. I may have also cast on my Bali Vanilla socks just in case I run out of easy knitting, you never know!

Wish me luck and see you on the other side!

Rainbow Update

I made the long car ride to my parents house to be with my Dad as he won his 200th football game as a coach. The picture below pretty much captions my heart. Three generations of love…

But you guys really care about the yarny goodness! Being at my parents meant more knitting time for this mommy! My Rainbow Bright socks saw some good knitting time.

Feet up, watching football and knitting in my lap! I’m past the ripcord for the afterthought heel and zooming up the leg. I’m debating on using a neutral grey for the heel or to use rainbow stripes for the heels. Any thoughts from other knitterly minds out there?

FO Friday: Jayne Hat

A very good SAHM friend asked for a favor. She wants to do a family costume theme of Firefly for Halloween. And she asked for a Jayne Hat for her 1 yo. I was more than happy to oblige!

Pattern: The Toddler Called Jayne by Milli Davis

Yarn: Knit Picks Mighty Stitch

Needles: US 8

I was super happy with his item! It was crazy fast and super simple. And the momma was crazy excited to get it. The toddler may have sobbed at being required to wear it, but maybe it will grow on him?

Jellybean may need one of these too….

Big Bad Berg-a-long Project

At least six podcasts I listen to are doing a KAL called the #bigbadbergalong that involved knitting any Melanie Berg the designer. And the Down Cellar KAL is using this as the October interception challenge for the Pigskin Party KAL. Well I say challenge accepted!

I know I’m in need of more mits for winter so I chose the Ice Cream and Soda Mits. Super simple yet oh so cozy mits. Plus they aren’t a huge time commitment. So I pulled some Knit Picks Brava Worsted from my stash and zoom I went.

I struggled with my tension and carrying the yarn up the mit to reduce ends being woven in. Totally not the patterns fault, just my technique issue. The second was a little better.

The edges roll a little bit but they are super squishy and oh so warm. I’m ready for winter! And scoring some super cool points in the KAL!! Anyone else doing anything Berg related?

Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday: Spooky Sock Update

These socks are soooo close!

I put in some concentrated time last night to finish the cuff of the second sock. All I have left is to install the last afterthought heel. I really want to get these done tonight but my toddler insists on dinner and snuggles so they may take a couple more days, lol.

I am so excited to turn these in for both the Down Cellar Studios Pigskin Party 2016 KAL and for the Socktober KAL with the Carolina Fiber Girls KAL. It’s fall and time to bring on all the knitting!!

Happy Knitting!

FO Friday: Earbud Cozy

I am participating in the Down Cellar Studio KAL aka the Pigskin Party 2016 which runs along the NFL season. In September you could win bonus points for projects that you could justify using in relation to football. I chose an earbud pouch so I could have my earbuds close at hand to listen to the games when I am out and about.

I got the idea from Dani of the Prairie Girls Knit and Spin podcast because she made these for her kids backpacks/back to school. I started with the same pattern Ear Bud Pouch by Mary Keenan and then translated it to sock yarn and bottom up.

My mods are in my Ravelry notes. It turned out a little small but still serviceable. But I suppose that happens when you only use 28 yards of yarn. And I scored 57 points for the KAL!

This has already been pressed into service and is living in my purse!

Rainbows Make Me Happy

I have been keeping a pretty rainbow on my bedside table. The Rainbow Bright vanilla socks have been my zen bedtime knitting.

They only get a few rows here and there but I’ve managed to work through a complete set of stripes. And I’ve paired my rainbow sock bag with my rainbow socks. It makes my matchy matchy heart happy!

Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday: Spooky Vanilla Socks

My Spooky Vanilla socks are cruising along…

I’ve finished the first sock and got a jump on the second one! I’m really trying to get the stripes to match and it’s working so far. Only two small fails, the first being that I wound my second small cake backwards so I have to work from the outside of the ball. Secondly I’ve had to cut the green yarn in the toe to make the stripes match. It really only means I have a couple more ends to weave in.

I’m definitely going to have a ton of yarn left from this generous skein from Berry Colorful Yarning. Just more yarn for scrap projects I guess!

Happy Knitting!
