Tweed Sleeve

Plugging away on my Round Yoke Pullover and I have finished sleeve #1.

I did modify the pattern a wee bit to account for my upper arm size. I knit longer in plain stockinette than it called for until I had enough fabric to match where my arm tapers. I then followed all the pattern decreases and still stopped at the total required lenght.

I remembered to put in locking stitch markers to help me count and make the second sleeve match. I have the needles ready and just need some good light to pick up the second sleeve.

Cast On: Firepit Hat

Friends invited us for a driveway hang with their new fire pit. And I didn’t have anything on hand that I wouldn’t mind to knit and have it smell like fire.

I grabbed my skein of Isager Yarn Aran Tweed I picked up on Looped DC this past summer. Mostly because it was already caked up. And I cast on a whole whack of stiches, I didn’t even count. Just went on vibes.

And after one good hang out and a couple of beers, I managed to get this much hat done. Just using my basic recipe of a vanilla beanie with a folded brim. No ribbing, just miles of stockinette. Love me some basic auto pilot knitting…

Final Yardage Count on Pigskin Party 2025 Spin

Alright the Pigskin Party 2025 Spin is done and dusted!

I am not going to lie, but the finishing of this yarn almost broke me. These skeins were so large that they didn’t fit on my ball winder. So I was forced to hand wind them as I ran it through my yardage counter. It was less than ideal.

So my finished measurements were:

  • Skein #1 on the left – 181 grams and 307 yards of mostly DK weight 3-ply
  • Skein #2 on the right – 145 grams and 270 yards of DK ish. I ran out of singles on this one so the end is 2ply and thinner.

I am pretty happy with this yarn of almost 600 yards of finished yarn. I thought perhaps I would make a blanket out of this yarn but I would have enough yarn to make a cropped sweater? I may need to marinate on this one.

K-Pop Yarn for PB

PB, like most girls her age, is obsessed with K-Pop Demon Hunters. And Stacey of Must Stash Yarn released a self striping colorway on brand. I had to buy it.

I haven’t knit a sock in AGES but I am thinking of some sock tubes for PB to rock around the house. Her feet are still growing so I am hesitant to do socks with heels that she will outgrow.

I am leaving this skein out on my desk to see if PB peer pressure and proximity would spur some sock knitting mojo….

Happy Stashing!!

Turning Dragonfly Brim

The Dragonfly Hat has a turned brim!

I am finding that this yarn worked on US 8s is making a denser fabric than other worsted bases I have used. This worsted base from Abstract Fiber is very round. The stitch definition is really popping.

I am getting a spiraling striping effect with this yarn. Some colors are thicker stripes and most are very thin. I have been letting this hat live in my office at work for a fidget/meeting survival tool. So my progress is sporadic, but this is not bad!!

Treasure Goddess Yarn Party

I may or may not have fell down on my wallet at the 2025 Treasure Goddess Yarn party this past October. The kids and I had a free Saturday morning so we headed over to KC to see the Treasure Goddess Farm.

Jellybean grabbed his own first knitting bag some Harry Potter stickers whilst PB chased the ducks and chickens. I meanwhile went insane. I grabbed five skeins of bubblegum pink Treasured DK Luxe. This is 70% alpaca, 20% silk and 10% cashmere base and BABY soft. I am going to make a garment that will highlight the drape of this yarn.

Next up I grabbed two four ounces braids of fiber that are a wool/yak mix. The first is a burgundy and the second is a purple. I think I will spin those singles and ply together for a barber pole. I also grabbed a skein of DEEP blue her Warmth Worsted for my hat stash.

Finally the kids convinced me to grab a Christmas garland kit where they paint the ornaments. Cleverly Christine had some free wooden ornaments out for a craft table and my kids were hooked.

I really need to find more time in my schedule to craft all this yarn! Happy Stashing!!

Cast On: Vary The Gate

For my next 2025 pigskin party cast on, I am doing Vary the Gate with some yarn from the Suburban Stitcher.

I don’t think I have made a shawl in YEARS. But this skein of neon green is languishing in my stash and this pattern is perfect for wildly variegated yarn. It’s a four row repeat and you work until you do a four row cast off.

I think I am going to make a little note card and stick in the bag as I don’t need the full pattern. It does feel a little weird to work on these small needles and yarn after so much worsted and DK. Probably not a bad thing for my fingers and hands….

All Plied Up

Happy Halloween! To celebrate today I bring you two plied skein of some kooky handspun.

As predicted I did have to spin these singles into two skeins, even with a jumbo bobbin. One is slightly bigger than the other as I didn’t get the exactly even. The first skein went great and I didn’t have many issues with the singles.

The second skein was a different story. The pink bobbin ran out super early and I only had two bobbins left. The remaining two bobbins were not spun enough in spots and I had a lot of breakage. And finally I was left with only the blue bobbin and I had to chain ply to finish all the singles.

Now these are off to a bath and whack so I can measure my final weight and yardage!

Dividing For Round Yoke Pullover Sleeves

I have been cruising on my Round Yoke Pullover. I am just barely past the divide for sleeves.

I have plenty of yarn and I torn about knitting an inch of two body and THEN doing sleeves. Or doing the sleeves last since I don’t have to worry about yarn chicken. This is a commercial enough yarn that I don’t think I will have to worry about helical knitting the body.

It’s finally getting chilly enough here that I am excited about sweater season! Happy Knitting!!

Plying The Crazy

I decided to break out my Hitchhiker spinning wheel to ply my 2025 Pigskin Party spinning project.

I got all three bobbins situated on my lazy kate under small but of tension. I chose my Hitchhiker because it came with a jumbo flyer and bobbin.

I rarely use this wheel as it is single treadle and not as intuitive for me to use. And this go around I ended up needing to replace the tension spring before I could go very far. Eventually I got going and consistently in the correct direction.

I am pretty sure I have enough fiber I will need to fill this jumbo bobbin and let it rest to take off the first skein before I can do the second. I am confident 12 ounces is too much for this.
