Damn Twist

While spectacularly getting my arse handed to me in Uno: No Mercy, I was knitting in my Scandia Hat and realized the damn thing is twisted…..

So I ripped that sucker out and started over. This time with no Uno cards and a glass of wine.

I opted to skip the 2×2 ribbing this time and just do stockinette. I chose solace in the comfy chair with the gas fire place that took longer to figure out that I would like to admit. I am still loving this yarn from my Christmas stocking. It really held up well to knitting and ripping back. The cast on row was a little sticky but came apart fine.

Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Scandia Hat

After finishing my Flats Hat, I needed another easy project on the needles. So I cast on a hat called the Scandia Hat.

This was the DK yarn that Santa put in my stocking from KnitCircus. It is their Divine DK in the color Pet Rock Speckle. Since this is a plump DK, I moved down to a US 7 but did cast on up to 100 stitches.

These hats are so forgiving that they will always fit someone. I am ribbing this hat brim with a 2×2 rib. It will still be my basic beanie recipe with a folded brim. Those just feel automatic to my hands while I am watching or talking with people.

Happy Hat Knitting!!

The Last Bit

Y’all….I am down to skein 11 and the last bit to boot for my Pigskin Party Blitz Blanket!

I am now entering the phase where I watching my ball of yarn to make sure I can finish a full row of stitches. I do want to try to finish with a row of SC to make a stronger edge to match the cast on edge.

This project is super heavy and I am not looking forward to blocking this one. I am fairly certain my washing machine on the delicate cycle will be the way to go. I have a clothesline in the basement I can hang this one to stretch it out using its own weight.

Let’s finish this! Happy Crocheting!!

Starting Skein 10!

I am committed to this blanket. I really want this done and I am honestly kind of bored with the monotony. It’s also getting very heavy and I started using blanket clips to help me flip it back and forth. And I am persevering, I am officially on skein 10 for my Pigskin Party Blitz Blanket.

I coming to the realization that this thing will be mahoosive. Unblocked and still one skein to go….this thing covers my parents patio table. This will probably end up a large throw size. I am fairly happy with the color progressions. If I wasn’t trying to clear out this yarn, I might have left out the teal and the green/yellow.

One more skein and I can check this off! Happy Knitting!!

Finished: Fairy Tale Beanie

Happy New Year’s Eve! I decided to cap off the 2024 year with a finished object. I present to you my finished Fairy Tale Beanie.

Pattern: Bluestem Beanie by Rebekah Lil

Needles: US 7 and US 8s

Yarn: Potions Yarn Dryad DK in Fairy Tale and Stranded Dyeworks Mohair in Patisserie

I love how this hat turned out so soft and so pink. There ended up a fair bit of flashing in this hat with the rusts and golds. The finished hat ended up using 363 yards of yarn. Magically I still have ball of the mohair left even after TWO hats. Laceweight really does give you the bang for the buck!

My hat needles are empty and I need to get some new mindless knitting on the needles! Happy Knitting!!

I Think Skein 7?

I think my Blitz Blanket has reached skein 7 out of 11. And it is now big enough to cover a small table!

I am through the yellows and greens and working back to pink in my “fade”. The blanket will book end by moving back to purples same as I started with. I had a lot of purple from this dyer, including two skeins each of some of the same purples. I REALLY want to get done with this before the SuperBowl for the bonus points in the Pigskin Party KAL.

I am motivating myself by not starting any new projects that are big. I super bad want to start another Radiate sweater by Joji and then start a worsted sweater with the Brooklyn Tweed I purchased last month.

Must crochet faster!

Blitz Update

My Blitz blanket is growing despite the busy holiday season. I am now fully into skein 5!

The sides continue to be wonky but I am getting more proficient at the turn! I am hoping blocking will hide some of my sins. Or I will have a perfectly imperfect project to keep me sunggly. It’s reaching a nice size where it keeps my lap warm!

Duke thinks so too!! Or he really wants me to put my crafting down and give him all the pets!

Happy Crocheting!!

Blitz Progress

The 2024 Pigskin Party is screaming towards the Super Bowl and I have not been focused on my blitz project (big project for big points). So I decided that the blitz blanket would grow more if I actually worked on it.

I have fully added two skeins of the Chromatic Yarns DK and just attached the third. I have 10 skeins of yarn to add so its progress but not anywhere close. I have designed to avoid adulting this weekend and really crank on this project.

I am struggling with my edges as my crochet skills are just beginner level. I tend to lose stitches and have to add/correct on my return rows. The variegated yarn is hiding a lot of sins for me. And this will still be a lovely blanket that is very warm no matter what the edges look like.

Bonus, It’s getting bigger and warmer on my lap for these cold winter days!

Fairy Fuzzy Brim

Car line knitting continues! This is the Fairy Tail Beanie that I started during my cast on fever. It’s going to be another Bluestem Beanie.

The DK pink color is some Potions Yarns in Dryad DK in the Fairy Tale color and the mohair is more Stranded Dyeworks Mohair Silk in Patisserie. The DK has cashmere in it and it really helps soften the feel of that mohair.

I just turned and reattached the folded brim. I had my kit with me and I was able to place a BOR marker this time. I forgot that last version of this hat and I messed up the patterning. I just need to dig out my US 8 needles and establish the patterning. It’s all popcorn knitting after that!

Happy Knitting!!

Casting On Two More Hats

I am filling up my empty needles early this morning before work. I have a tote bag full of the hat yarn I intend to use and I did random dip to pull my next two projects.

On the right is a Bluestem Beanie that I cast on with some Potions Yarn Dryad DK in Fairy Tale and more of the Stranded Dyeworks Mohair silk in the Patisserie colorway. This one starts on US 7s and I’ll move to 8s after the brim.

On the left is just a basic worsted beanie in the last skein of worsted acrylic I have kicking around in my stash. I made a HS friend a Baby Sophisticate out of this back in 2017 and I had almost a full skein left after. This will be another vanilla hat as the yarn is slippery and I just wanted to crank it out and get it used up.

Happy Knitting!!
