FO Friday: The Age of Brass and Steam Kerchief

My shawl is done!

I made The Age of Brass and Steam by Orange Flower Yarn. I used Dragonfly Fibers Damsel in the Earth and Green colorway. I used mods on the because I had sport weight and the pattern called for fingering. The sport weight Yarn made this fly off the needles!

(Never mind the dark circles under my eyes….Jellybean is in a having bad dreams at night phase)

I used size 9 US needles and I knit one more stockinette and garter eyelet section each then called for. I even won at yarn chicken with just 2 yards left!! This baby is huge…

It’s 63 inches across and 22 inches deep. As you can see above from my atrocious selfies above that it wraps comfortably around my neck. My mother has been side eyeing this project since I started and so this might be her Christmas present. She spoils me so she is definitely knit worthy!

Happy Knitting!

FO Friday: Rainbow Brite Vanilla Socks

Tah Dah….my tonsil recovery knitting project is done!

They are just so bright and happy! And they match *almost* perfectly. I used Knit Picks Felici in Rainbow on size 0 US needles. The pattern is just a 72 stitch vanilla toe up sock. I put in an afterthought heel in a contrasting color.

I thought the grey suited nicely. I used about 340 yards of rainbow and 20 some yards of the grey. And it was awesome pick up/set down stockinette knitting when I didn’t feel great.

I turned these in for points in both the Down Cellar Studio’s Pigskin Party KAL and the Carolina Fiber Girls’ Socktober KAL. I feel very accomplished given how crappy I felt!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Spooky Vanilla Socks

I’m all prepared for Halloween! My  Spooky Vanilla Socks are done!

Pattern: Toe up vanilla sock with afterthought heel

Yarn: Berry Colorful Yarnings Saturated Sock in the color Spooky

Needles: US 1

My matchup matchy heart is so happy with these. I did use some yarn management to get these to match so it’s not by accident. I had to weave in a few extra ends but it was totally worth it. I also modified my afterthought heel a bit as well. After I picked up the stitches I worked 5-6 rounds of stockinette before starting the decreases. I feel like this made more fabric that covered my heel without over stretching. It’s a tad loose so next time I may only do 4 rounds. But I’m still super super happy! And I got to turn these in for the Pigskin Party KAL and #Socktober!

Happy Knitting!

FO Friday: Jayne Hat

A very good SAHM friend asked for a favor. She wants to do a family costume theme of Firefly for Halloween. And she asked for a Jayne Hat for her 1 yo. I was more than happy to oblige!

Pattern: The Toddler Called Jayne by Milli Davis

Yarn: Knit Picks Mighty Stitch

Needles: US 8

I was super happy with his item! It was crazy fast and super simple. And the momma was crazy excited to get it. The toddler may have sobbed at being required to wear it, but maybe it will grow on him?

Jellybean may need one of these too….

Happy Knitting!

FO Friday: Earbud Cozy

I am participating in the Down Cellar Studio KAL aka the Pigskin Party 2016 which runs along the NFL season. In September you could win bonus points for projects that you could justify using in relation to football. I chose an earbud pouch so I could have my earbuds close at hand to listen to the games when I am out and about.

I got the idea from Dani of the Prairie Girls Knit and Spin podcast because she made these for her kids backpacks/back to school. I started with the same pattern Ear Bud Pouch by Mary Keenan and then translated it to sock yarn and bottom up.

My mods are in my Ravelry notes. It turned out a little small but still serviceable. But I suppose that happens when you only use 28 yards of yarn. And I scored 57 points for the KAL!

This has already been pressed into service and is living in my purse!

Happy Knitting

FO Friday: More Mittens for Jellybean

After finishing the first pair of mittens for Jellybean I immediately cast on for a second pair. I’m under no illusion that as a 2 year old he’s not going to make every attempt to lose or destroy these mittens. Backups are a must!

Pattern: No Swatch No Gauge Mittens for Kids by Jean Gifford

Needles: US 5s

Yarn: Berroco Vintage in royal blue

I used about 100 yards of worsted weight for this pair and the last pair. They are very quick to work up as well. This project also served as #dcspigskinparty2016 KAL project. I worked this in my team colors (aka my dad’s high school football team) to earn extra points in the KAL. And of course Jellybean gets more mittens!

These too need a good wash and block but are just waiting for winter to arrive! Happy Knitting!!

Finished Mittens for Jellybean

I whipped through the mittens for Jellybean this week!

Pattern: No Swatch No Gauge Mittens for Kids by Jean Gifford

Needles: US 5s

Yarn: Berroco Vintage in teal

I love these finished objects despite the fact that I had to use dpns in the round. I’m getting ready to throw them in a bath to wash and block to even out the stitches. I haven’t yet dared to show them to Jellybean because I would never get them back! He’s got quite the glove obsession of late. And with they thought I’m off to start a second pair!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Black Body Radiation Socks

These socks are my absolute favorite pair to date. I loved everything about them….the color, the yarn, the matching ❤️

Pattern: 60 stitch toe up vanilla sock with afterthought heel over 60% of the total stitches

Yarn: String Thoery Colorworks Orbit base in the Black Body Radiation color

Needles: US 2 nine inch circs

I LOVE how great they match. This is really my first success at this pretty much ever. You guys….I knit these in FOUR DAYS over a long weekend that involved some grandparent time for Jellybean. I want to knit this yarn all the time in all the colors….seriously! My husband better hide my debit card.

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Pot O Gold Vanilla Socks

My hands are getting back in to shape. I’ve managed to make up some time and finish my Pot O Gold vanilla socks.

They turned out a bit loose in the leg but the feet are a perfect fit.

Pattern: 64 stitch toe up vanilla socks with afterthought heel.

Yarn: Dove Roving company Tapping Tootsie in the Pot O Gold color

Needles: US 2 circ

I couldn’t be happier and this has been just the boost I’ve needed to get back in to knitting.

Happy Knitting!

FO Friday: Henry’s Hat

I finished Henry’s Hat for Jellybeans Christmas present. (Well except for the buttons)

I worked the 6-8 size as written. I knew as I was knitting that the hat looked shallow. But I kept deluding myself that it would be okay. The circumference is spot on but he is yanking it down to cover his ears. It’s an easy enough solution… I can reknit the hat as I have plenty of yarn. I only used about 100 yards of a 250 yard skein. And so I can just extend the stockinette portion above the brim another inch or inch and a half.

Either way Jellybean loved the hat and wore it ALL DAY at daycare even though it’s 90 degrees or more in Kansas right now. At least I know he likes my knits!
