One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others

I have basically knit through all of my worsted weight stash (that isn’t handspun) and I have been getting great joy from knitting hats lately. So I jumped on Etsy and grabbed some more worsted from one of my favorite dyers, Lilliput Yarn.

Though my brain has not been working lately. I came down with an upper respiratory virus from my conference and my husband caught COVID from a work exposure. So we have been feeling really puny around here. I THOUGHT I purchased three skeins of worsted. But what I had done is two skeins of worsted and one skein of Rudy’s sport. Score one for cold medicine and brain fog.

The sport skein is a mix merino and nylon and will make an excellent pair of socks. I think that might be my next cast on after I finish my Emotional Support Socks. And I think I will try to get the other two started as hats ASAP for TV knitting and travel knitting.

Happy Knitting!!

Coworker Conference Knitting

What a difference 8 hours of sitting and listening can make! My second coworker hat is ready for decreases!

I am super ready to NOT be sitting in ballroom straight backed chairs and drinking really bad coffee. The muggles around me were really impressed with my multi-tasking skills and I think I just might make my deadline!

I do think I will STILL have yarn leftover even with a larger brim and more stitches. Perhaps I could use these leftovers and the chocolate leftovers to make a wee toddler hat for my coworker’s kiddo? Shall I dare?

Hat In A Hotel

I finished my first coworker hat and wasted no time in busting through the second. I’m working against the clock here. And it’s conference season so I’m working out of a hotel room for a few days.

This is going to be a bit larger than my first. I knit the ribbed brim longer this time in an effort to use more of the yarn. Since I am making up this from a “recipe” it is a dangerous game as I also increased the stitch count. I need to monitor my yarn usage to ward off yarn chicken.

The good news is that I am already in the stockinette section and I have two days of conference lectures!

Cast On: Another Coworker Hat

I’m running out of time before my coworker leaves us! So I grabbed a second set of needles from my interchangeable case and started the second hat I need. (I use the Addi Shorties set in the larger sizes)

For this one I am shooting for a larger size based on my newly evolved gauge so I went up to 96 stitches. I like working my hats in multiples of 8 so that I can accommodate 2×2 ribbing and have the kind of crown decreases I like.

Must knit faster!!!

A Working Hat

Zoom definitely has its pros and cons, but it can be great for knitters. I had a few hours of training where I needed to focus and pay attention, so my Coworker Hat made a lot of progress!

I am super close to the crown decreases based on the height I prefer for hats. And I definitely have a ton of yarn left. I could have made the ribbing taller but it is what it is. I also recently added a Ted Lasso sticker to my work phone and wanted to share for no good reason at all.

I love Roy Kent! Happy Knitting!!

Golden Hour

Jellybean really wanted someone to play outside with him last night. Or more specifically watch him play outside. So I poured a lovely glass of wine and headed out to wind down the busy weekend. Jellybean added to his stick collection and I picked up my coworker hat.

The golden hour did not disappoint! My bag, my knitting and my wine were all on theme. I only added a few rows to the hat before we had to go inside for homework and shower. But it was the peace both Jellybean and I needed before getting ready to face the week ahead!

Happy Knitting!!

Dueling Labs

Gosh I loved worsted yarn, it practically knits itself! I blasted through the 2×2 rib and got the brim folded up and moved to stockinette in the round. This hat is for my coworker who is leaving soon.

I couldn’t resist the cuteness that was dueling labs. I have my yellow lab snuggle buddy right next to my chocolate lab hat. The universe made this moment feel right!

Racing to The Finish: A Coworker Hat

My Coworker Hat is complete! I couldn’t love this chocolate dream any more. The subtle color variegation really looks like a lovely marbled chocolate.

Pattern: My own 88 stitch basic beanie with a folded brim (Rav Link)

Yarn: Lilliput Woof Worsted in Chocolate Lab

Needles: US 8s

I ended up using 80% of the 100 gram skein of yarn. That is roughly 176 yard of yarn for this medium sized hat. I was really tryin to use the full skein and probably could have made the brim bigger. Oh well! It is still beautiful.

I still have a little time before they leave so I may try to make hats for the whole family! Wish me luck 🙂

Park Toes

Mother Nature gave us a beautiful fall day on the same weekend the stomach bug rolled around our house. After the kiddos felt a little bit better we meandered over to a local park to get some sun and fresh air. The kids were still tired but had a great time collecting leaves and acorns as “treasure” and I got some knitting time in.

I got the second toe started on my Emotional Support Socks and drank a rare Coca Cola in the warm sun. I really want to get the fiddly bits done on the toe as I have some all day training on Zoom coming up and this would make great pass the time knitting. I knit the first sock on the FlexiFlips so I guess I will also do for the second? Better to not tempt the gauge gods….

Cast On: A Coworker Hat

I found out last week that one of my coworkers and fellow managers is leaving to move his family to Oregon. I’m super happy for him to have a cool new job and be closer to his large family. But I am sad I will be losing my partner in crime. So I decided to channel my energy into a hat.

Digging in my stash I found two skeins of Woof Worsted from Lilliput Yarns. This first one is Chocolate Lab and perfect for a hat! Bonus points that this yarn was made in Oregon and seems a fitting parting gift to go back to Oregon.

I am using US 8s and my basic toque recipe of 88 stitches. I am thinking a folded brim on this one? My gauge might be getting tighter. I noticed my hats are coming out smaller these days. I will need to either add more stitches or go up a needle size me thinks.

Happy Knitting!!
