Party Cake Peep Progress

Sometimes I’m surprised by my projects. My Party Cake Peep Vanilla socks live in my purse. I pick them up while commuting or waiting in line. But being that they are vanilla…I don’t give them much thought. Guess what…they are almost done!

I’ve turned the heel and started up the leg! I think if I could put down my scrap blanket these might be done soon! Maybe there are knitting fairies that work on these when I’m not looking?

My First Hexipuff

In addition to my sock yarn memory blanket I decided to start a pile of hexipuffs as well. I have MORE than enough sock scraps to do at least two Hexipuffs per color. I made it through the first one!

I managed not only to cast off incorrectly (Kitchener instead of crochet cast off) but I also failed to stuff it with fiber fill….insert face palm here….

It was easily enough remedied without losing any stitches and only took a a few minutes. Doesn’t this look much better? These aren’t quite as zen as my mitre squares but still fulfilling.

Now I just need to work up a storage plan for these tiny puff so in 15 years when I have enough for a blanket I can find them!

Cast On: Camo Vanilla Socks

Winter is coming…..just kidding. But Christmas is only getting closer and closer. I need another pair of socks for my Dad for his stocking. I had snagged some more Cascade Heritage Prints from my LYS. This is a nice green/brown Camo print which suits my dad perfectly.

This is a nice thick fingering yarn that I’m working on US 2s. True to my sock knitting form this is another toe up vanilla sock. I’m letting the print of the yarn do the hard work. It makes the sock literally fly. I LOVE THAT!
This is more “zen” knitting for me!

Cast On: 22.5 Degrees

As I talked about awhile back I frogged my Clapo-Ktus shawl. I just wasn’t feeling it. So I fell down the Ravelry rabbit whole and came out with 22.5 Degrees by Martina Behm. It’s a straight forward garter stitch shawl with YO increases and all knits. Perfect for current state of mush for brains!

I pulled out some Hiya Hiya bamboo circulars and got this baby on the needles. The pattern is designed for highly variegated but I think my solid royal blue will be just fine and fit my wardrobe just beautifully.

I even managed to sneak some wine and knitting time while the hubby was doing bedtime with Jellybean. Pure bliss!

My Baby Loves Knitting

Thanks to my wonderful husband and Jellybean I had a successful Mothers Day Cast On!

I managed to get the yarn wound (no small feet with this being a 600 yard skein and using my 1990s plastic ball wonder) and the pattern printed. The pattern is Old Man of Storr by Carie Harling for those with inquiring minds.

I’m in the garter section and it’s nice easy knitting. I only have to keep track of four increases and make sure I know the right side and wrong side. The yarn is a cashmere blend and absolutely delicious! I’m not sure how much love this will get as I have a couple small projects in mind to get done soon. But it doesn’t matter because it was wonderful to knit on Mother’s Day and associate some great memories of little toddler hands helping me in those stitches.

WIP Wednesday: Party Cake Vanilla Socks

Good Wednesday morning to all! I have a be WIP. I’ll pause for you to absorb the shock….

I felt the need for more vanilla socks in my life and grabbed the Show Me Yarns Bootheel in the party cake peeps color from Knitting in The Heartland and got cracking.

Thanks to some grandparents baby sitting and the new Avengers movie (I’ll spare you my opinion on that) I cruised through the foot of the sock and started the gusset increases! I’m just working my standard 68 stitch toe up vanilla sock on US 1s.

The speckles are just darn addicting. I can’t put this down! Definitely a winner in my 2016 Sock Yarn Experiment. This dyer has great color sense and the yarn base is pretty easy to work with. I’m smitten 😍

Mothers Day Cast On

The Prairie Girls of the Prairie Girls Knit and Spin podcast have a Mother’s Day tradition I decided to adopt!

The deal is you cast on a just for your project on Mother’s Day and take pic of your kiddo holding the yarn or project. Then you get some unadulterated knitting time to work on it! I’ve already informed my husband this is what I want.

I pulled my 600 yard skein of Cashmere Super Toes sock in the Pieces of Eight color way that I got at Knitting In The Heartland this year. And I found a perfect pattern, Old Man of Storr shawlette by Carie Harling. It’s triangle shawl in mostly garter stitch that should help me maximize this mega-skein!

WIP Wednesday: Beach Glass Vanilla Socks

I might be becoming addicted to sport weight sock yarn….

Thanks to some recent windshield time I’ve finished sock #1 and have a good start on #2. The pooling/flashing is much more pleasing to my eye over 62 stitches than the 68 I started with. Not to mention the fit is much better!

I’m making this pair an honorary member of my 2016 sock yarn experiment and it’s one of my favorites so far. The yarn is Mint Rin Hand Dyed Sport Sock in the beach glass color way. I’ll definitely be getting more of this!

More Little Old Man Sweaters

I’m in that season of life where my friends are having ALL THE BABIES. And lately it’s been a string of boys which suits me fine because like I said last week, I’m obsessed with tiny baby old man sweaters!

I couldn’t resist and started another Baby Sophisticate by Linden Down. This time out of some deep stash Bernat Satin in Royal Blue. This is destined for a little boy that if he’s anything like his sister he’s going to have the most amazing blue eyes.

I’m just now ready to separate from the sleeves. And of course do the finishing on my Uptown Worsted baby sophisticate….

Falling Out Of Love

I’ve had a Clapo-ktus on the needles since Jellybean was a few weeks old. It looks like this…

The yarn is great, the pattern is great, the FO will be beautiful but I just don’t love it anymore. It takes so much brain power to count my stitches and it’s hard to set down in order to chase Jellybean away from danger. I need more simplicity in my life. I think I’m going to rip this and cast on something garter related.

Maybe 22.5 degrees by Martina Behm….
