A Mailbox of Minis

Ready for some yarn porn? I received my mini skeins from my swamp partners in the Down Cellar Studio Christmas Mini Skein swap

It was such a joy to go the mailbox everyday. I received the yummy yarn above and a few extra treats thrown in by swappers. I hadn’t ever really done a swap before. And this was a nice easy one to start with. People were so kind and wonderful. It was the epitome of the holiday spirit. I cannot wait to add these to my sock yarn memory blanket.  But that probably won’t happen until after the Super Bowl when the Pigskin Party KAL is done. Until then, I have more projects to finish!

Happy Knitting!!

Oops…More Yarn

My sister was here to help with Jellybean during my tonsillectomy recovery. While she was here she wanted me to pick out my birthday present so of course I chose yarn!

I knew I needed some more Knit Picks mighty stitch to finish my Might Rainbow Blanket since I stole yarn to make the Jayne Hat. So I threw those skeins in there and my sister helped me pick birthday yarn!

We settled on something new to me…Hawthorne Sport Multi! We chose Vancouver, Happy Valley, and Buckman.

One of these skeins will be socks for her. I’ve fallen in love with sport weight socks because they are so warm and they knit up crazy fast. I have so much on my needles they will have to marinade in stash for awhile. I’m okay with that, having stash is not a bad thing ☺️

Happy Knitting!!

Sad Panda

My newest socks off the needles took a bit of a sad turn. I put them in a cold water wash with Soak on gentle in my machine and disaster…..

Before:

After:

The blue and purple dye bled and just changed the whole sock. I’m a sad panda. They still fit and are beautiful in a fashion. They just aren’t my bright cheery socks anymore. I should have citric acid treated them but I was in a rush and didn’t think. I whole heartedly regret that but what can you do?

I have an email in to the yarn maker to see what I did wrong and to let them know there was a problem. No answer as of yet.

Here’s to happier knitting!

I Heart Yarn

I may have fallen down the Knit Picks hole…

After wallowing in my recent germy funk my keyboard just took itself to Knit Picks. I’ve been ITCHING to make the Might Rainbow blanket from KP Mighty Stitch. And I decided to treat myself and some sock yarn (Felici and Hawthorne) might have fallen in to my cart too.

The Pigskin Party KAL is just around the corner from the Down Cellar Studio podcast. I have big plans for all this yarn to rack ups some big KAL points! I’ll keep posted of course.

Happy Knitting!!

KITHKC: Yarny Goodness

Yesterday I tantalized you with hidden Yarny treasures from my Knitting In The Heartland trip. Well here now are the goodies!

Nerd Girls Yarn – Bounce and Stomp in the Mutatis color way. This is a fingering 4-ply that’s 80/20 SW and nylon. It reminded me of my school colors and it had to come home with me!
Show Me Yarns Bootheel in Party Cake Peeps color way. This is a light fingering 3-ply and the speckles were just too hard to resist!

This was my ultimate purchase! It is a 600 yard skein of fingering weight MCN from Treasure Goddess in Pieces of Eight color way. This took most of my budget but was TOTALLY worth it. I’m envisioning a beautiful shawl or scarf!

This is Nymph Sock from Supernatural Yarns in the Hermoine Granger color way. I’m not a super HP fan but the color was too much to pass up!

Finally I picked up some bling fromThe Sexy Knitter. I got some new stitch markets and a pair of tiny snips for my mom and her embroidery.

I’ve now exhausted my yarn find so I need to be good for while to rebuild my reserve. I should have plenty of pretties to knit on though!

Happy Knitting!!

Knitting In The Heartland Recap

Oh, you didn’t know I was going to Knitting In The Heartland? Well neither did I! I was vaguely aware of its existence in Kansas City but my toddler addled brain didn’t retain specifics. On the Fridat it started I saw a FB post by one of my friends and I saw THE YARN HARLOT was going to be there. I just knew then and there I had to do. Unfortunately all the classes and Yarn Harlot pieces were long booked and I had family obligations as well. But I did manage to scrounge some time on Sunday to hit the market. (Many thanks to my husband for for the toddler free time.)

This is me super excited in the parking lot.

This is me being a dork and taking photos of the sign.

The glorious market of yumminess!

My t-shirt that made everyone laugh.

The damage I did in the market….

The t-shirt I got because I didn’t meet the Yarn Harlot but was super jazzed just to be in the same building. (I probably would have fan girled all over myself I had met her anyway, lol)

I truly had a great time at my first convention. It was small and comfortable so just the right speed for my first event. I did fan girl a tiny bit when I met Sarah of The Sexy Knitter etsy shop. Her items are gorgeous, her patterns are amazing, and she is stunning in person. I pulled my Sexy Knitter tin ftom her Cyber Monday Sale from my bag just to show her and she probably thought I was the crazy knitter my shirt advertised!

Stay tuned tomorrow for details on my purchases!

A Wonderful Surprise

Hello, my name is Rachelle and I’m a podcast junkie. One my favorites is the KnitCircus podcast with Jaala and Amy. They are hilarious, knowledgable, and just all around nice people. They recently  held a giveaway and I thought what the hey I’m going to enter. And I won! This pretty showed up in my mailbox.

It is Sakkie from Plymouth Yarn company. It’s a 40% merino, 40% mohair, and 20% nylon blend. It’s BABY BUTT soft! It’s the most glorious blend of muted pinks and peaches with a bit of purple brown. My photos do not do it justice but when you live with grabby toddler hands, well you just make do.
For now I don’t have plans for this yarn. I’m just going to tuck this baby safely in my stash and then bring it out to pet it once in awhile. Did I mention it was soft?

Enabled

Instagram is dangerous territory…it’s a minefield of beautiful yarn and projects. And I was enabled last week. Mintrain put out a coupon for a snow day discount on their Instagram feed. Before I knew it I was in their Etsy shop and this hopped in my basket…

It’s a sport weight sock yarn in 80/20 merino nylon blend. It’s sooooo pretty and it arrived in my mailbox already!

I definitely didn’t need more sock yarn. And I’ve splurged on a t-shirt and project bags lately. But I’m not sorry. When Jellybean was tiny we didn’t have the funds nor did I have the time to do fun projects. So now that our budget has room and I have the time I’m going to do what I want/can. Because a time will come when my belt will tighten and I will be glad for a well curated stash!

Happy Knitting!!

Central Kansas Yarn Hop: part III

Okay, stop number four is up today. It was Yarns Sold and Told in Salina, KS.

storefront2014

I have been to this store a number of times and loved them all. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The yarn selection is good and I kinda fell down hard again at this store, lol. It was also at this point that I got kind of tired and forgot to keep taking photos. Below is a lovely snapchat grab from my friend who joined me at this stop.

Now for the yarn p0rn….

I was definitely in a sock place this yarn hop. I picked up some sport weight Regia for socks for the hubby. I’m hoping the thicker yarn makes the socks go faster for his huge feet. Next up was some more Regia but this time in Flourmania. And to round out the sock collection as some Tapping Tootsies by Dove Roving Company. And I was still on the hunt for some yarn for Jellybean so I picked up some Cherub Aran in Navy by Cascade Yarns.

Tomorrow due up is my last stop, so until then….Happy Knitting!

Central Kansas Yarn Hop

I completed my first yarn/shop hop. Boy howdy was it exhausting! I made five stops out of 10. I made a plan and a budget going in and (mostly) stuck to it. I had an absolute blast. There were newborn puppies, lovely people, snacks, and all the glorious yarn a girl could want. I think I’m going to break up my trip into several posts this week so as to spread out the yarn p0rn.

First up was Yak N Yarn of Topeka, KS. This is technically my LYS. And I freely admit I don’t get there much. The store has weird hours that aren’t friendly to a working momma and the yarn selection just isn’t that good. I still try to buy from there whenever I can but it’s hard sometimes. I did pick up something interesting there from the sale bin that was new to me: t-shirt yarn!

(Me in my “Knittaz 4 Life” t-shirt”)   It’s Sullivans Noodles (Cotton) in the Butterfly colorway. I think I’m going to knit this up into a nice smooshy cowl. The greens will go nicely with my eyes I think.

My next stop was Alpacas of Wildcat Hollow. Now this is not a store but an actual working alpaca farm. I had to drive WAY into the country to get to this one and it was worth a stop!

I got to see alpaca, chickens, and herding dogs. One of the momma’s had just had pups a few days before. She was a very good momma and very protective of her pups. I did a little tour and then perused their little shop. And in the interest of full disclosure…I’m not a huge alpaca fan. It has amazing qualities and this particular yarn was out of sight. It’s just that it doesn’t fit my current project frame of mind. Nonetheless I still picked up a skein that will destined for soft as air cowl for my gift pile. See the yarn p0rn below.

Stay tuned tomorrow for my next stop!

Happy Knitting!!
