Finished Better In Burgundy Hat

This is the finished Better in Burgundy Hat.

Pattern: My own 88 stitch beanie “recipe”

Needles: US 8s

Yarn: Malabrigo Rios in Purpuras

This version of my recipe ended up with a decently long 2×2 ribbed folded brim and then a nice slouchy stockinette hat. I used a little more yarn on this due to the slouch in 82 grams or 172 yards.

This hat is going into my volleyball team gift pile! Next up is finishing my Other Ponytail Hat and then go back for another beanie. I need to get to 7 hats to cover our full team. Happy Knitting!!

Three Finished Skein

My latest handspun is FINALLY dry! So let’s do a wrap up post.

On the right are my Frosted Roses skeins. The bigger one is a 2-ply made of Polwarth/Silk blend. I got 263 yards in a 100 grams for a sport weight skein. And the teeny mini is a 3-ply that worked out to 30 yards over 23 grams. I’m pretty happy with both!

The brown skein is my Shetland 3-ply and I am thrilled with this one. I got 212 yards of yarn over 117 grams. So this worked out to a heavy DK or light worsted. And it is really pretty consistent given my current skill level.

Now just to tag these kids and get them into my handspun yarn storage! Happy Spinning!!

Burgundy Decreases

The Better in Burgundy hat has reached the decrease stage.

When I am working my hat “recipe” I tend to use a star shaped decrease. For instance with 88 stitches I work in 10 stitch sections and the last one leaves me with 8 when I reach BOR. I then alternate stockinette rounds with decrease rounds until I get down to a handful stitches on the needles and then I decrease every row rapidly to finish.

It’s not perfect but it works for me and muggles don’t notice it’s not 100% symmetrical. It also helps that it require very little brain cells.

Knitting, Legos and Zoos

Our local Zoo has a traveling Lego exhibit that is teaching about animals and conservation. We found a nice breezy 70 degree day and took the kids for a zoo trip!

Of course I had to take my Penguin Socks and take a photo with the polar bears! These socks have not grown much but progress is progress. The legos were super cool and they had signs that told us how many bricks they took. Fun fact…..its THOUSANDS.

Also, I nicked my finger cutting veg the other day so that has hindered my knitting slightly. Keeping a Band-Aid on help some but I can’t wait for it to heal.

Grey Brim

It’s sports mom summer and now that its 80-90 degrees, I’m happy the golf course has cold beer. For this session, lessons are two hours. So great knitting time!

I had been thinking about my first prototype ponytail beanie for my friend. I decided I really wanted a second crack at it. So I pulled a skein of TreasureGoddess Yarns worsted in Ghost Ship and got started.

I am doing my 88 total stitches but I worked a stockinette folded brim. I am starting the main body and when I get to decreases I will decrease quickly and then do some ribbing to leave a stretchy opening for a messy bun.

Or at least that is the plan! Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Another Teal Beanie

Happy Friday and happy finished hat!! My Another Teal Beanie if off the needles.

Pattern: My own 88 stitch beanie “recipe:

Yarn: Malabrigo Rios in Cian

Needles: US 8s

For this version I worked a 2×2 brim that I knit and then folded over to join with the main body of the hat. Then just stockinette for days ending in star type decreases to close it up. I used approximately 162 yards or 77 grams.

I have all the hat mojo right now. I think I have decided to channel it into gift knits for my volleyball team later this year. Work now, gift later. I already have the next two hats in mind with the yarn wound!

Burgundy On The Road

The Better In Burgundy Hat now has a full brim.

Thanks to the first week of summer golf and then some gym time, I have the brim knit and folded over. I am JUST starting the stockinette. So I should really fly now. I think I have said before that I taught myself to flick where I keep hold of the right hand needle. When I fully throw I let go and it slows the whole process down.

I just can’t help loving all these hats. Happy Knitting!!

One Rainbow Repeat

The Prism Socks are inching along thanks to all the hat mojo of late. But I have completed the first rainbow repeat!

This progress is actually thanks to a half day work training and then two weeks of gymnastics lessons. I don’t seem to pick this project up when I am around the house. It’s just so nicely portable and lives in my work backpack.

I think the plan will be to work a second full rainbow repeat and see where I am lengthwise and then I can plan the heel and cuffs.

Cast On: Better In Burgundy Hat

I have a hat FO to share later this week and in the meantime I am starting my next hat so my needles don’t get lonely.

This is more of the Malabrigo I grabbed at the Yarn Barn a couple months ago. This color is a deep burgundy that they name Purpuras. I am working on a my standard adult beanie so that means my normal recipe of 88 stitches.

I did decided to start with 2×2 rib and again fold it over. But I have to throw when I rib when I can flick when do stockinette. I’m thinking my next hat or two will have stockinette brims as I am so much faster when flicking. It’s just so satisfying how fast worsted weight goes!

A Rose In Two Form

The Frosted Rose yarn is all plied. Both the on purpose skein and the extra mini I ended up with.

I did have the partial bobbin left that I spun into a chain ply (right). It turned out to be a decent sized mini skein! I did get these wound off the bobbins and into a bath this weekend. And it’s SO HUMID here that they are taking forever to dry.

I think I will move them downstairs to near my dehumidifier in my laundry room?
