Distraction and Disc Golf
I played a round of disc golf with the husband over last weekend. The hubs is pretty serious about it and I’m terrible. Not to mention the course we played could have doubled for a horror movie set with the abundance of creepy wooded areas.
I kept getting distracted by the foliage and canopies of trees against the brilliant blue sky! The hubs got annoyed. It was a gorgeous October day so we stopped keeping score and just enjoyed the day together.
Here are a few of my favorite snaps from the afternoon…
A New Life
Pardon me, for today I take a break from crafting to enjoy one of the greatest gifts anyone can make. A new life…
My oldest and dearest friend had a beautiful and amazing little girl this past weekend. I couldn’t stop staring at her angel face and tiny tiny hands. Who knows where those little hands will take her, but I can’t wait to find out!!!
Crafting At A Wedding
My husband was asked to be soloist for a wedding ceremony by some dear friends. While it was a bit breezy in KS for an outdoor wedding, we persevered!! The bride is a fellow actress and fiber artist. So of course she thought of activity books for the wedding reception. I did a little coloring and photography to kill some time after dinner but before the dance.
It was very nice to have a date night with the husband. I even managed a few rows on a new project. Hopefully I have a few more rows complete this week to have enough to share!
My favorite part? The whole wedding part and assorted friends did the Time Warp dance from Rocky Horror Picture Show. I love to going to weddings of theatre people!
The Bride and Groom look so in love and it was a very beautiful day!
Last Bits of Summer
The yard has been weeded and seeded. The apple trees have been harvested. The shrubs and tree limbs are trimmed back. And the patio is now clean. All that is left is to wait for gentle fall rains and grass growing. Then the leaves will begin to change and fall and we will have a whole new set of chores to get this house ready for winter.
For now we celebrate the last bits of summer with wine and a good reading…
Puppy snuggles….
Weanie roasts and smores….
Happy Saturday!!!
A Wandering Walk
Over Labor Day Weekend I took a wandering walk while at my parents house. It was a bright and sunny morning, so I tried to snap a few shots of my favorite things about growing up in a rural community.
P.S. I am not a very good photographer, lol. And I took these on an iPhone…bear with me…
Rusty farm equipment in the sun
My old high school, Pike Valley High School
The Scandia water tower
Rolling fields of green
The high school football field and my parents home
Happy Tuesday to you all!!
Tomato Madness
My family has always grown a HUGE garden. The tomatoes set and produced like gangbusters this year. I have been dying to put up some homemade salsa and tomato sauce. I use so much sauce in my crock pot recipes and the hubby eats salsa by the gallon. But the problem is that I didn’t know how to can either of those.
So over Labor Day weekend, my Grandma and Aunt Janice offered to teach me. It was SOOO much work but it was awesome! I love making stuff in my Grandma’s kitchen. It reminds me of being a kid again.
Start with the freshest tomatoes a garden can produce. Remove skins and seeds leaving only the yummy pulp and juice…
Pick some yummy green chilies and throw on the grill…
Roast until toasty and blistery and sweat until skins come off…
Take tomato goodness and cook down until you have thick saucy goodness…
Season with yummy veggies and spices and pour into jars and process until sealed tight!
In 13 hours (over two days with many helping hands) I was able to make 14 pints of tomato and roasted chili salsa and 17 pints of tomato sauce. My cupboard is so happy now!!! I can’t wait to savor these goodies in the winter when everything is cold and dreary.
One Year Anniversary!!!
Holy Crap, I missed my one year blog anniversary. I was so distracted by fiber that I completely missed the date in August. Oh well, that’s kind of the point of knitting right?
I should have some terribly eloquent post composed about the last year. But to be honest my life has been so wonderfully busy that I got nothing…I mean I did lots of stuff don’t get me wrong. In the past year I have:
- moved into our first home with my husband
- learned to use double pointed needles
- tried to cull my stash of yarn
- learned to make sweaters
- performed in two plays on stage
- started a blog 🙂
- spent many wonderful hours enjoying my husband and fur children
- traveled to spend time with old friends
- hung out with my crazy family
- cooked many wonderful meals
- and finally, KNIT A WHOLE CRAP LOAD OF THINGS!
That’s it….that’s all I got. But I hope you stick around to see what comes next. Even I don’t know what it is, lol!
Hears hoping to another wonderful year!!!
A Place of Beauty and Peace
While in NW Arkansas we had the opportunity to walk through the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville. This gem of a museum is nestled in between lush AR foothills and is a sight to behold. There are rooms and rooms of art inside and miles and miles of hiking trails outside.
The art was great of course but I was most struck by the landscaping and architecture. I caught myself thinking “I would love to sit and knit here” every time we got to a new section of the complex.
Here are some photos I snapped, enjoy!
Best of all…all this was FREE! Totally worth checking out if you are ever in Bentonville, AR!!!
