New House Day!!!

Today’s the day!!!!

The hubs and I are about to sign documents to purchase our first ever home. At 11 am we will be homeowners and have a boatload of debt….oh wait, we already have student loans!

This whole process has been fraught with ups and downs. Buying a home in this economy is not easy. And I will freely admit I cried several times…

I cannot wait to show you guys photos as we get set up in our new home!!

Stay tuned…..

Adventures in the Flint Hills

Remember awhile back when I told you about my weekend hangover? Well this weekend I had the pleasure of spending Saturday with the folks of Prairie Fire Winery at their annual spring planting.

Right smack dab in the Flint Hills of Kansas on the slope of a hill, we planted over 500 vines. I wish I could remember what variety we planted but the names where in French and I’m a Spanish kind of girl, lol.

Thems a lot of holes! I even got to take Dex. He was a great dog and didn’t even try to make a run for it. He followed us up and down the hill and charmed everyone. After five hours he was one pooped puppy!!

I had a blast. I got my hands dirty, learned about vines, sampled some wine, and hung out with good friends. Bob and Julie are truly some of the best people I have had the pleasure of meeting. And boy are they passionate about their vino!! In the past two years their wine has really started to rack up awards as well. Check out this article in winespectator.com, they made the final four!

And you can’t beat the view either!!

Where is Spring!?

Did I jinx myself by knitting a spring sweater? It’s been cold and damp and stormy in the plains. We desperately need the moisture but I haven’t seen the sun in a week! Starting to get grumpy….

We had some severe thunderstorms roll through last night. I think between the storms and all the packing for our move my fur babies are very unsettled.

Dex didn’t want me to knit. You aren’t even safe when brushing your teeth!

Our dogs aren’t scared in the sense they freak out. They just become very clingy, lol. See exhibit A of our 90 lb lab trying to be a lap puppy!

At bedtime all four of us tried to fit on a king sized bed. For me it was incredibly soothing to be snuggled up with all my favorite people (dogs can be people too) and falling asleep to the sounds of thunder. However, a particularly noxious fart from the lab got him relocated to the dog bed on the floor, lol.

Hopefully we can see some sun this weekend! We are t-minus 12 days to closing and t-minus 23 days to moving!

Battle of the Buldge

In preparing for the impending huge step in our lives by buying a house, we decided some life insurance might be necessary. We are young and it’s really rather affordable right now. So off we went! There was a small matter of routine physicals….

Holy moley, were the holidays hard on our waistlines. Both of us are overweight and the hubs has high cholesterol. I knew that both of our wardrobes had been getting tight but sheesh! So we’ve decided to do something about it.

1) The hubs has started a fish oil regimen and increased his fiber intake per doctors orders

2) I’m increasing my cardio workouts and dragging the husband with me

3) Dinner time is now a no starch zone. We try to fix lean protein, steamed or raw veggies, and a high fiber fruit.

4) Cut our soda/sugar intake by half

5) Cut out alcohol consumption unless attending social events

6) Packing sack lunches before we go to bed instead of when we are bleary eyed first thing in the am.

7) Having bottled water on hand and Brita pitcher always full. We need all the hydration we can get!

We suck at dieting. We like carbs. We like sweets. We don’t need to crash diet. We need to learn to live better! I’m hoping by still getting our whole grains and bread/rice during breakfast and lunch that we won’t feel deprived! And if we have a soda or donut here and there….it’s not going to kill us. We simply makes choices and find a balance.

Disclaimer: I’m by no means an expert on health or fitness! This is just what we are going to try make work for us. Common sense and moderation…

Baby steps and positive choices! Here goes nothing!

Holy Cow!!!!

Well it was an exciting weekend in household. The hubs and I found a house!!!!!! Literally on our first swing. We looked at 6 homes on Saturday and put an offer on one we fell in love with on Sunday. It has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, fenced backyard, and a two car garage. And it was a short sale by the owner so we got a great deal.

I can’t wait to show you how beautiful this house is! It has the space and storage we desperately need. And I will finally get a craft space of my own 🙂

On top of this my play, A Perfect Wedding, had started rehearsals. So in the next 45 days I have to learn an entire show, pack all my worldly goods, and get set up in our first home! I am still going to try to keep up my knitting. I have some very exciting WIPs!!

I just hope I come out on the other side with my sanity!!!

Knitting on the Road

Hello from the boonies of North Central! I am stuck watching it snow sideways this morning. Mind you it was 50+ degrees yesterday. I have my coffee and my knitting and I am just enjoying the peace of country life. (That is providing the five canines in the house at this moment can leave me alone and stop messing up my yarn because they hate the storm….) Still working on my chenille Stockinette Baby Blanket, one stitch at a time.

Its kinds of nice once in awhile to just close my eyes and pretend I’m a kid again at my parents’ house and I don’t have a care in the world. In few hours (fingers crossed for good roads) I have to load up the fur babies and head back to my big kid world and my husband. I wouldn’t trade what I have in a million years…but a girl can pretend once in awhile right?

Happy Knitting!!

Valentines Day Surprise!

20130213-105254.jpg

I love my parents! For as long as I can remember my dad has always made sure to send flowers to ALL his special ladies. He sends gifts to my mother, my sister, his mother, his mother in law, and I. I don’t have a particular desire to celebrate V-day especially as its mostly a commercial holiday. But it melts my heart how sweet my daddy is. He is such a great and honorable man that words cannot express how much I love him. And there is just something about flowers (especially at work on my desk) that just make me smile!

On the home front the husband and I had a cozy dinner for two at home. T-bone steak for him and salmon fillet for me both with fresh salad and steamed veggies. We shared a mini Sara Lee Cheesecake just because. By alas, the husband had to go to his Int Algebra class so I was left to knit on the couch with a glass of wine in my stretchy pants.

Ain’t married life grand!!

Best Laid Plans

Hey! My name is Bella. I see that you are trying to knit. I think that’s really cool. Can I smell it?! Can I sit my butt directly on top of it and wiggle non stop!? Can I climb all over you so that you make sure to love on me?

20130211-103413.jpg

Here is my buddy Barley. He would very much like to use your legs as a pillow and take up 75% of the couch. He would also appreciate if you didn’t move around a lot. He weighs 100 lbs so I doubt you will be able to move anyway.

20130211-103630.jpg

We are so glad you came to visit!! Can we take a nap now? Oh…wait someone crinkled cellophane in the kitchen. We must investigate!!!!!

(This is pretty much what happened every time I sat on the couch to knit this past weekend. I love my mom’s dogs but needless to say I did not finish my zig zag blanket. No worries I have made progress since then and I have 1 1/2 pattern repeats and the border to complete!)

Ps. I had a wonderful time with the family celebrating Grandma’s 80th back home this past weekend. Food, wine, and fun! I even have the extra 5lbs to prove it….
