Socktober Progress

Tah Dah!!! I have turned my first heel on my first ever sock…..

I’m working a toe up sock with simple gusset heel. I’m using Knit Picks Felici in the colorway Peachy. It’s fingering weight yarn on size US 1 needles and it feels like its taking forever!

I am finding that holding my tension between the needles is hard for me. And I have some looser tension spots that no one will notice but me, lol. Knitter problems, I swear I’m my own worst critic.

Now I just need to knit up the leg portion. I will definitely use some sort of super stretchy cast off. (On a side note, I have a sneaky suspicion about my yardage on this project. But I will refrain voicing those thoughts until I have finished this sock)

Coming Clean

Time to come clean….

Remember this?

Yep this if Florelei shawl in Cascade Sunseeker yarn or my Stashbustin’ #22. I started this waaaay back here. Then I filled you in my all my progress here.

Well, I feel obligated to inform you that it still looks like this. This pattern is great but represents a serious skills challenge for this shawl chart newbie. This summer has just been so packed with fun and activity I haven’t had the time nor inclination to sit back down with this. And now I’m in the throws of knitting for fall craft fairs for the next three months.

So in all honestly, I am going to let this project hibernate in my craft room. Right on top of my yarn cabinets where I can clearly see it. And come this winter when the snow is falling softly outside I will pull this project out and kick it’s shawl behind. I don’t care that it’s a shawl and I should be making sweaters. I know that I need some fortitude and peace to work this project out. And so it will have to be.

Stashbustin’ #25: Baby Sophisticate

At my recent 10 year high school reunion I had a friend make a special knitting request. She wants an “old man” style sweater for her baby boy due in September.

So I introduce to you Stashbustin’ #25: Baby Sophisticate by Linden Down!

How cute is this? I think I am going to make the 3-6 mo size as this family tends to make big babies! Mom also requested that this be a soft and easy care garment. So I culled my stash and found just enough Carron Simply Soft in grey. It’s machine washable and pretty soft for acrylic. Probably not my first choice of yarn for a sweater, but this isn’t my project, lol!

The yardage is going to be tight but I think I can make it. I hope to get this started this week. I am going to swatch in the same yarn but a different color since I’m close on yarn.

Now I just need to go find some old man looking buttons….

Harvest Has Begun!

Kansas has officially turned golden! Its wheat harvest time baby!! This is one of my favorite times of year with hues of golden wheat as far as the eye can see. Which is pretty far considering the flatness of the prairie, lol.

I snapped a few photos on our drive home from a wedding last weekend. I can’t get enough of golden grain against green grass and deep blue skies. If you listen closely you can hear the combines starting their throaty rumble and lumbering out into the fields…

FO Friday: Two-fer

TGIF!! I have a two-fer FO!!!

My first beanie for Knitters Helping Knitters is done and I used up a partial skein from my stash! Thanks to the hubs for posing. I’m currently working on beanie number two and hoped to be done soon.

Finally, completed Stashbustin’ #11 is done!! After great feedback from you guys I decided to scrap the zipper. I picked up and knit the band on both sides. I didn’t knit it as wide as indicated on the pattern because I didn’t want the edges overlapping.

I’m very happy with this project. I proved to myself that I can in fact make a sweater!! I very much feel like a big kid knitter looking at my FO, lol. My Ravelry page has all the details if you need.

I may or may not be planning a longer and striped version of this construction in some more of my stashed cotton…

Dinner For Two: Tom Yum Soup

In an effort to throw some vegetarian meals into our ongoing healthy lifestyle I picked up some soup bases that were recommended by a friend. Last night’s experiment: Organic Tom Yum Soup!

I followed the directions on the box except for I doubled the mushrooms and onions. I like lots of “stuff” in my soups. It pretty much consists of soup base/broth, sautéed onions, sautéed mushrooms, salt, and pepper. My husband is not a huge vegetarian fan and likes his meals to be filling. Solution, I steamed some rice!

This way we could pour some soup over a portion of rice to add fiber and something filling. I thought it also needed a bit of color and crunch, so I quick chopped some green onions as a garnish!

And tah dah, dinner!!!

The broth was slightly spicy and gingery. The mushrooms were okay but I’m not sure I cooked them correctly (I don’t use them often). The sautéed onions were sweet and heavenly. And the green onions were a nice and fresh pop to the soup.

It was a good dinner. The husband and I both felt full and satisfied. Will we cook it a lot? Probably not, but it was a nice change up from our normal meal routine.
