FO Friday: Baby Knits!!

I finally wrangled Jellybean (thankfully in a happy mood) and took some FO photos for some of my finished baby knits!

First up, my Rolled Cuff Baby Booties! These used a minuscule 43 yards of yarn, weight a measly 22 grams, and took just a couple of hours. They fit perfectly on his one to two month old feet. They are tad bit small on this three month old feet./home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f00/39837473/files/2014/12/img_1995.jpg

Next up the Candy Corn baby booties and hat! To be honest these booties are just weirdly shaped and never really fit his feet well. The hat though….just perfect. It’s just more adorable than I can imagine. We get tons of compliments when we wear this hat out and about. My Ravelry details are here./home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f00/39837473/files/2014/12/img_1999.jpg

Lastly is the Garter Ear Flap Hat by Purl Soho. This one had some issues and all totally my fault. I had size problems with the first one I knit. The second attempt honestly languished on the needles. I just lost the mojo to work on this one. So I stuffed this hat into my purse over Christmas and got it done! Sad news….Jellybean has almost outgrown this size now, lol. My original one actually fits better now. Not to mention I messed up one of the pattern rounds on this second attempt. Oh well….it’s cute and will keep him warm at least once or twice. My Ravelry notes on this one are here for those interested./home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f00/39837473/files/2014/12/img_2009.jpg

Yes….he’s figured out how to stick out his baby tongue. And enjoys doing so profusely!

Happy Knitting to all of you from Jellybean and I!

FO Friday: A Grown Up Barley

Pardon the no make bathroom selfie. But a knitter with a tiny human attached to them at all times doesn’t have much choice, lol.

Pattern: Barley by TinCanKnits

Needles: US 8s

Yarn: Knit Picks Brava Worsted in Wine (I used just over half a skein or 130 yard of yarn)IMG_1283.JPG

IMG_0942.JPG

I made this hat to match the teeny tiny barley I knit for Jellybean. But for the life of me I can’t remember where the hell I put that darn hat! Mommy brain: 1 Me: 0 I have some hunting to do!

Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday: Garter Ear Flap Hat

It’s turning cold here in Kansas and Jellybean has outgrown all his store bought stocking caps. (Even the 6 month sizes….) So being the knitting momma I am I cast on for a hat posthaste!

Pattern: Garter Ear Flap Hat by Purl Soho

I made the toddler size to make sure it was going to fit. But I didn’t pay very good attention to the instructions and neglected to go down a needle size after I finished the brim portion. The result is a lovely hat that won’t fit Jellybean until the middle of the blazing Kansas summer…shown below…IMG_1053.JPGSo I have regrouped and cast on again, this time with a number of total stitches between the infant and toddler sizes AND the correct needles! This first hat really is just a big gauge swatch right? I totally meant to do that…

For those that are curious the yarn is some Berroco Lustra that I picked up eons ago during a trip to my first actual yarn/knitting shop. I’ve been saving it in my stash and surely Jellybean deserves only the best from my stash right?

This pattern like so many from Purl Soho is very easy and delightful. It shouldn’t take me long at all to whip out this next hat. I’ll pause for your laughter considering Jellybean is now two months old and ruling the roost and most of my free time…

Happy Knitting!

FO Friday: Checkerboard Hat

The night before I went into labor I finished up a couple of quick baby knits. Perhaps jellybean was just that anxious to wear them, lol?

Here is the first one: Checkerboard Baby Hat by Heidi Sunday. It’s a free Ravelry pattern!

IMG_0664.JPG

Yarn: Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in Celestial

Needles: US 8 circulars and DPNs

Size: newborn

Mods: none

I used hardly any yarn for this project. It took 48 yards or 22 grams of yarn. The pattern was easy to memorize and it only took a couple of hours to finish this hat.

Jellybean was obviously less than impressed with this hat. And with the way he is growing…it’s not going to fit for long, lol!

Happy Friday!

Baby-Itis….More Hats

Still counting down to Jellybean’s arrival. Sorry if it’s getting a little repetitive but I don’t have a lot else to think about lately since I’m smuggling a watermelon under my t-shirt, lol. After the success my Candy Corn Hat and Booties last week I felt the itch to make more winter hats for Jellybean. I figure it wouldn’t hurt to have several in different sizes on hand.

First up, Newborn Hat with Seed Stitch Trim by the Mucky Mackbook. This is a free pattern and not a lot of people have made this yet. So fingers crossed it works well. I plan to knit this some super soft Berroco Comfort DK in a royal like blue color.

Next, Checkerboard Hat by Heidi Sunday. This pattern has a lot more hits and completed projects. So I’m guessing this one should be pretty easy. For this cap I pulled some Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in Celestial.

Lastly, I felt Jellybean needed some more booties. I found these adorable creations in my queue, Rolled Cuff Baby Booties by Nickie Alexander. This pattern has a crazy amount of FOs so I don’t have any worries. And the photos of the projects are adorable! For softness and ease of care I pulled some Caron Simply Soft from stash. I chose the color Pagoda for a nice rich dark fabric.

Stayed tuned to see my progress! Happy Knitting 😉

FO Friday: Candy Corn Hat and Booties

Happy Friday!! I have a FO to show you 🙂

IMG_0364.JPG

My Candy Corn Hat and Booties are done! This was a crazy fast knit. Including the fact that I basically knit the hat twice. I chose to knit the hat in the round on a circular instead of double pointed needles. This caused an EPIC pattern reading fail that I didn’t notice until I was almost done. But I digress…

IMG_0366.JPGPattern: Candy Corn Hat and Booties by Lion Brand Yarn

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft in Off-White and Sunshine and Vanna’s Choice in Terracotta. I used very little yarn. All told it was 47 gram or 67.7 yards of yarn. Obviously much more yellow and orange than white. This would great for using up scraps!

Needles: US 8 circulars

Mods: I cast on 68 stitches instead of the pattern prescribed 60 to allow for growing room for Jellybean and the fact that my husband’s family tends to grow big headed babies, lol. My project is Raveled here.

Depending on baby size and weather, this might be Jellybean’s Halloween costume. We will see what the baby brain fog brings. For now I’m just going to continue to knit until he or she gets here!

Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday: Candy Corn Hat and Booties

Since Jellybean is going to be a fall baby I couldn’t resist whipping up a little Halloween fun. Since I’ll probably be in the throes of “new mommy fog” come late October this might also be Jellybean’s Halloween costume…

Pattern: Candy Corn Hat and Booties by Lion Brand Yarn

Needles: US 8 circs

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft in yellow and off-white and Vanna’s Choice in terra cotta

It’s coming along quickly! I upped my stitch count from the pattern 60 to 68 to account for the likely size of the offspring that comes from my 6’4″ husband, lol. Chloe is generously helping as well…okay she is mostly snuggling and snoring.

Anyone else out there making Halloween plans yet?

FO Friday: Barley

It’s been EONS since I have had a FO to show. I finished my first hat for Jellybean!

Pattern: Barley by Tin Can Knits

Yarn: Knit Picks Brava Worsted in Wine

Needles: US 8

Size: infant20140524-140322-50602585.jpg

This was a PERFECT pregnancy brain project. Easy to follow directions and a quick knit for that instant gratification! I only used 27 grams or 60 yards of yarn. After a good wash and block this hat should have enough stretch to get Jellybean through next winter!

20140524-140323-50603070.jpg

I even have enough yarn to cast on for an adult size version so the hubby and I can have a hat to match Jellybean. (I’m more excited than the hubby if you can imagine that!)

Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday: Little By Little

I haven’t exactly been a ball of fire lately but I’ve finally made some progress on a hat for Jellybean.

20140429-154328.jpg

I’m making the smallest size of Barley by Tin Can Knits. The yarn is Knit Picks Brava worsted in Wine.

This had been a quick and easy knit so far. Excellent for pregnancy brain knitting, lol. I’m itching to make some sort of Minion hat for Jellybean too. I just need to get my needles free!!!

WIP Wednesday: Barley

Balancing my fatigue/all the time mornning sickness and desire to make adorable things for Jellybean is killing me! I have barely started my hexi-ghan. And by barely starting, I mean I have picked out two colors to alternate stripes in red-ish cotton and purple cotton.

Maybe I need something smaller and portable? After my success with Rye by Tin Can Knits, I thought about Barley by the same designer….

A nice worsted weight project with some neat design elements without being too masculine or feminine. Maybe in some nice Knit Picks Brava Worsted in a nice deep wine color?

Happy Wednesday!
