A New To Me Yarn

I’ve been listening to the Prairie Girls Knit and Spin podcast for about a year now. They are seriously funny lady and excellent crafters. Danie also runs the One Twisted Tree shop, a purveyor of fine yarn and other wonderful accessories. I’ve felt her yarn calling my name but I resisted until my blanket obsession took over. Then this happened…

That’s the Splash Pad Party mini skein set Danie made for the Down Cellar Studio summer KAL. The colors are great and I get to sample her yarn!

I also picked up a sock knitter profile bag. Because hey why not!

Just don’t tell my husband I bought more yarn….😊

Yet Another Blanket Update

My Memory Blanket is still growing!

I’ve added almost another entire row this week. Yes, I’m still stealing from full skeins of yarn to be able to keep working. I may have also ordered more mini skeins, but that’s a discussion for another day. For now I’m just going to admire the precious…

Happy knitting!!

Blanket Obsession Update

The Memory Blanket is still growing!

I’m not sure why I have such a drive to work on this. I know in my knitterly brain that this is a long haul project and it will likely take months or years to finish to a decent size. But the square are just so satisfying!

Enough of this blather as I’m sure you are tired of it. Just enjoy the picture of the pretty precious!

Memory Blanket Update

The Blanket” is growing again!

I’m at 31 and a 1/2 squares. I’m officially breaking in to some full skeins to add more to this blanket. It’s just so dang soothing and gratifying to work on I can’t stop!

I still don’t love picking up the stitches but sharp tipped needles help quite a bit. And I’ve fallen behind on my weaving in of ends (I’ve hidden them cleverly under the blanket). Perhaps I’ll catch that up during lunch today?

Continued Growth

My memory blanket is growing. Here is my progress since last week…

I’m on the 19th square with no signs of slowing. I still have several scraps but my pile is shrinking. I may dip into my yarn stash to make a few mini skeins even before I knit the socks. I never use all the yarn anyway so that’s not crazy at all right? I just want to ride this wave of motivation before I lose it.

I really haven’t touched anything else so my blog posts may be fewer and far between until this blanket fever passes. I should be making an effort to keep up with my birthday and Christmas prep. But should and will are two distinct concepts 😊

Happy Knitting!

Caution: Obsession Ahead

I talked about my memory sock blanket on Monday. I may be a bit obsessed…this was my project on Wednesday.

That’s four squares (and a DVR college softball game).

Here is where I am today….

I’m nine squares in and thoroughly addicted. I’m trying not to plan my colors too much. I even let my hubby pick a couple of squares. He didn’t find it as exciting as I did, lol. I can’t seem to find the mojo to work on anything ends…

What are you addicted to lately?

My First Hexipuff

In addition to my sock yarn memory blanket I decided to start a pile of hexipuffs as well. I have MORE than enough sock scraps to do at least two Hexipuffs per color. I made it through the first one!

I managed not only to cast off incorrectly (Kitchener instead of crochet cast off) but I also failed to stuff it with fiber fill….insert face palm here….

It was easily enough remedied without losing any stitches and only took a a few minutes. Doesn’t this look much better? These aren’t quite as zen as my mitre squares but still fulfilling.

Now I just need to work up a storage plan for these tiny puff so in 15 years when I have enough for a blanket I can find them!

Casting On Memories

I’ve been hoarding my sock leftovers like tiny balls of gold. I’ve been dreaming of Hexi-puffs and mitre squares. I want to gather all these great scraps and memories. (Spoiler alert…I’m getting sappy because my tiny baby has turned in to a toddler overnight. How did that happen!?)

I did feel a bit overwhelmed at starting something so…long term. So I just dove in!

I started with the mitre square part first. (Ignore my wonky edge…that will be hidden by the next square). I’m going to frame each square in some grey sock yarn to ease the transition for some of my crazier colors. I can’t decide if I want to work a square and a hexi-puff concurrently or just wing it with both. I have more than enough scrap yarn to do several of each kind. Maybe I’ll even make a Frankenstein sock of leftovers. I’ve got more ideas than knitting time, lol. Time will tell…

The 2016 Sock Yarn Experiment

I’ve reached that stage in life’s where I don’t need a lot of “stuff” in my life. Which makes Christmas and birthdays hard for those wishing to get me gifts. And lovely as my family is they aren’t initiated into the knitting obsession as I am and aren’t comfortable buying supplies for me. Therefor this year I got gift cards and straight up cash to spend on my knitting anyway I wished.

If you have been reading this blog for anytime at all you are aware of my current sock obsession. I listen to a lot of podcasts and read a ton of blogs that feed my yarny sock obsession and tempt me with fantastic indie dyed yarns. From this my plot was hatched….why not a 2016 sock yarn experiment?

I made a spreadsheet m of all the sock yarn and dyers that I’ve heard about. Then I hit the Internet and priced out each kind, the fiber content, and colors available. I wanted to get a nice variety and try as many new yarns as possible. Based on my budget and the post Christmas sales I was able to grab these yarns (prepare to drool):

I am probably insane and this is a tremendous amount of yarn. Who knows how long it will take me to get through. But I’m high on yarn fumes and right now I don’t care! I hope I have done a bit of yarn enabling as well!

Two Mitts, One Happy Knitter!

My Jacoby Mitts are finito!  They are snug without being too tight. The yarn is a superwash merino/nylon base so I’m hoping they stand up well with no pilling as I type and work. On a side but related note….how hard is it to take good pictures of your hands? Lol, I had to have the hubby help! Even then one hand would appear smaller/larger in the photo unless I kept my hands spaced correctly.
I used a free pattern and yarn from my stash. A win for this girl! Not mention the instant gratification of a quick project! I absolutely adore the pops of deep purple, blues and bits of white that appear. Very much like the blackberries I used to pick in my Grandparent’s garden.

Pattern: Jacoby from Berroco

Yarn: Cloudlover Sock yarn in Blackberry Truffle

Needles: Size US 1 8″ Addi Turbo circular needle

Size: 60 stitches as per pattern

Mods: Lengthened the arm portion and finger portion to add cover more of my wrists and fingers.

These worked up easily and quickly on my circs. I am going to keep this pattern in mind for quick and easy gifts for birthday and holidays. My sister make like a pair maybe? And the best part is that this is not my only FO this week….stay tuned….
