A Heel For My Husband

My husband sock has a heel!

The 3×1 ribbing was very fiddly to pick up especially in dark yarn. But I got there!

And all in all I was left with a very nice stockinette heel via the afterthought heel. And my Kitchener is getting much better if I do say so myself. (Though I still look up directions every single time.)

I’m hoping by weeks end to have a complete sock for the hubby to try on. Fingers crossed anyway!

FO Friday: Rainbow Socks

I’m very pleased to present….

A beautiful finished rainbow. I was worried about matching up the cuffs but I think I did well! They fit like a dream. And they are so gorgeous I can’t stop staring at them…

My Ravelry page is here. But here is a summary of the important details:

Yarn: Over The Rainbow by Jaala Spiro/KnitCircus

Pattern: heavily modified Sand Dune Socks by Trish Halliburton

Needles: US 1s

I cast on 70 stitches to start. I nipped in a few after the heel to hug my ankle and increased pretty liberally at the cuff for my, ahem, muscular calves.

I thought they turned out very a very good match. And I used every last bit of yarn. I think I had 12-14 inches left? I’m just pleased as punch with my most extravagant yarn purchase ever. All I did was knit and let the yarn sing!

What’s On My Needles #7

I feel like my Husband Socks are the tortoises of my WIPs. Slow and steady wins the race. Apparently so because I haven’t blogged about them since February!

These are 3×1 ribbed sock for my husband. They live with my milk pumping supplies and get a few stitches here and there. I’m past the afterthought heel but wanted to add the heel so I can use up the remaining yarn for the leg. This means knitting from the inside and outside of the ball at once. Definitely not my favorite!

The yarn is Knit Picks Stroll in Merlot. It’s a great yarn but very dark. Add in the singular purls next to three knit stitches and getting the heel picked up was a nightmare. I ended up using locking stitch markers to catch all the dropped stitches until I could work around to them!

After all that drama….I need a time out. And this is only sock #1! My husband better love these (and next time he’s getting vanilla socks, lol).

Near The End of The Rainbow

I’ve far too quickly come to the end of my Rainbow.

I’m already working the ribbed cuff in purple. This yarn from KnitCircus has just been yummy. And the yardage generous enough for some very tall socks.  The colors transition beautifully  and made them addicting. Which is good because I have not had much dedicated knitting time lately, just a few rows here and there. But slow and steady still finishes the race right?

Now my only conundrum is that I didn’t take very good notes on my increases in the rib section on sock #1. Guess I’ll just have to use my best guess!

Happy knitting!

The Second Rainbow

Just a quick fly by post for my second rainbow. I finished my first rainbow here

I’ve worked the toe increases and most of the way up the foot. It’s slow going as Jelkybean has hit a bump in the road when it comes to sleep. So I’m grabbing ZZZs where I can leaving little time for knitting. Such is the ebb and flow of life.

(Not to mention chloe is staking her claim on snuggle time!)

The End Of The Rainbow!

Squeee!!!! It fits! Happy St Patrick’s to all! I thought it was fitting to show you my “pot of gold” at the end of my rainbow…..a finished sock…..

I played fast and loose with the cast off edge. I literally finished with 12 inches of yarn! I’m so pleased with my Rainbow socks so far. I wish the blue section was a little bigger as its my favorite color. But the overall rainbow is just so striking! Jaala with KnitCircus hit it out of the park with this one.

The slip stitch heel fits nicely. I am only loosely following this pattern. But it’s very well written and a perfect base for my mods. Now I just need to cast on the second one!

Happiness Is Finished Socks!

Tah Dah!

I couldn’t wait for FO Friday for these. My Happy Socks in Happy Feet are done. I dealt with that pesky dropped stitch. I had a teeny tiny ball of yarn left and they fit pretty well. Goals accomplished!

The 70 stitch count fits a bit better than the 68 I was using before, especially in the foot. I’m considering doing a hybrid on my next pair. Like a 70 stitch foot and a 66 or 68 stitch leg? That way they really hug each area.

I really like how the 2×2 rib keeps the sock from falling down. The yarn isn’t the softest but I think it will wear well. I used my own vanilla pattern and my notes are raveled here.

The best part? I can start my Rainbow Socks!!!

Happy knitting!

One Tiny Stitch

I’ve been plowing through my Happy Sock #2. Thanks to some good Jellybean naps, long work meetings, and general knitting obsession I’ve passed the heel and working up the leg!

Just one problem…

One. Tiny. Stitch!

I dropped a stitch when I knit in the afterthought heel. I didn’t notice right away and its dropped down three rows. I managed to stop it and secure it by using some scrap yarn for now. I’m not going to frog back to it, I’ve gone to far and I just want to be done already! My inkling is to ladder the stitch back up and secure it with an extra peice of yarn woven through the purl bumps.

Now where is my tiny crochet hook???

Knitters Are Amazing People

It’s no secret I’ve been on a sock binge lately. And I’ve been trolling my sock yarn drawer and petting all the lovelies. It came to my attention that I have some single skein of Knit Picks Felici hanging out in there. How did I do that? You can’t make socks from one measly skein!

So I did what any good knitter would do and took to Ravelry. I hit up other Ravelers with single skeins in their stashes and pleaded my case for a swap or sale. And oh boy did they ever come through! I found willing matches for all my colors. Be still my knitting heart!

One of my swaps showed up today:

A gorgeous skein and a thoughtful handwritten note! They took the time to wish me and the yarn good luck. I firmly believe that knitters are the best kind of people in the world!!

Conquering SSS

Onward and upward!

IMG_2976

This is the second sock of my  is on the needles! Jellybean took a good 3 hour nap this past weekend and I knit the toe increases (twice actually because I had a dropped stitch make a huge whole). I really like the fabric this yarn creates but the toe and heel sections are hell on my fingers. The yarn is not the softest but should make a hard wearing sock.

Now to power through this second sock so I can get my hands on my Rainbow Socks! Fighting the SSS (second sock syndrome) hard core on this one…

Happy knitting!
