My Blitz blanket is growing despite the busy holiday season. I am now fully into skein 5!
The sides continue to be wonky but I am getting more proficient at the turn! I am hoping blocking will hide some of my sins. Or I will have a perfectly imperfect project to keep me sunggly. It’s reaching a nice size where it keeps my lap warm!
Duke thinks so too!! Or he really wants me to put my crafting down and give him all the pets!

I batch spun my next few little fiber nests! This is my 2024 Knitz And Pearlz advent calendar.
I started the top portion before I snagged a photo, but it first a NEON yellow solid color. And that was followed by a nice mix of pinks and blues with white to unify those two. Next up, on the bottom left, was a pink and orange mix. And lastly, on the bottom right, was some solid pink.
The solid pink was slightly felted on one end and not the funnest to spin. I flipped the roving over and it did spin better from that direction but it only delayed the inevitable of the felted bits. My bobbin is filling up nicely and fairly certain I would only be fit 12 or 13 days on this bobbin.
Oh! And the pink fiber came with a Christmas bobble stitch marker. There are little green stars inside that you can shake up!

Frankenstein Hat #2 is done and dusted (okay, well washed)
Pattern: Musselburgh (kind of) by Ysolda Teague

Needles: US 8s
I really like how I chose to use the browns in the middle. It makes the hat look consistent but VERY different depending on which side you face out. The orange comes across very hunting themed/blaze orange. And the green side reads more fall vibes, to me.
This used up 218 yards of yarn and every bit of scraps for each of these colors. I had a teeny bit of green left at cast off but I just tucked that on the inside as I closed up the hat. Extra insulation! I get so much satisfaction from using up scraps and closing out those stash entries on Ravelry!

My second Frankenstein Hat has reached the point where it is falling off my needles. I cruised through two more brown scraps and nearly reached the total length.
I am just now attaching the final green color. I didn’t weigh my cast on like I should have to know how many grams I need for the cast off. So I am embarking on yarn chicken. Worst case, its worsted and I rip back and redo. Or it could work out great and I will have a finished hat!

I am not spinning my fiber advent calendar in real time. I am opening each day on the day to get a little dopamine boost. But I decided to set aside some time to work up the first three days.
The little nests are not labeled with fiber type. But they are about 1/4 ounce of something. This was not the most organized or polished advent I have ever received but it’s still pretty. I can tell that this fiber has some factor of silk content based on the feel and sheen.
The first day was some springy colors, followed by blues and then pinks/purples. I sat down and spun these end to end onto my bobbin. I am using Ashford Kiwi 3 and I feel a bit rusty after non spinning since summer time.

This Frankenstein Hat is addictive. It’s just so stinking satisfying to use up each scrap!
The orange is completely used up and I am three rows from finishing the copper. I think next up will be the variegated browns. I am still using a US 8 needle but I am working over 96 stitches to make a slightly larger hat.
The scraps are shrinking fast, I may need to pull a fifth scrap ball to make the full length of this hat….

Nothing like year end barreling down on you to get you motivated for a project with a deadline. I am finally four skeins into my Pigskin Party Blitz Blanket. This thing needs to be done before the super bowl to earn mega points.
The first four skeins made total sense and gradate nicely. But now I’m into the part of my Chromatic Yarns stash that gets more eccentric. I spent considerable time laying out all my option as I decided I hated my original plan. My new plan is purples into green/blues then into pinks and finally back to purples.
I am also getting better at the edges and I’m not losing stitch count nearly as badly. This blanket will definitely be OOAK and will contain NUMEROUS mistakes, lol. But it will be a blanket full of love and perseverance.

My scrap bag wouldn’t close again so I decided to start a second Frankenstein Hat. I culled my leftovers and found a nice fall color scheme.
I decided to start with the orange color since it was the boldest color in the bunch and I will work through the browns and end with the green. Why….it sounds good to my brain.

I have been packing around a gift certificate from my birthday back in November to the LYS that is near my job. I decided to pop over last Friday and use that sucker up (and then some)
I stalked their website first and looked at clearance items. I was shocked to find Brooklyn Tweed Shelter on clearance…..AND IN A SWEATER QUANTITY. So I snapped up a worsted weight sweater quantity in the color amaranth. It does have a rougher feel to it in skein but I hear that it softens with washing. This is a woolen spun yarn so it should create a lighter feeling but very warm sweater. I have already stalked Ravelry for pattern ideas.
Also in clearance was some Plymouth Yarn Homestead Tweed. I grabbed a skein of Country Blue and Oatmeal to add to my hat stash. We will see if the hat mojo continues into 2025, lol.
I picked some relatively neutral colors so that would fill in some color gaps in my finished hat stash. I realize not everyone loves my personal color palette! Happy Knitting!!
DPNs were located and my Bonnie Mae Hat is now in the FO pile!
Pattern: My own basic beanie recipe, this time with 72 stitches and a ribbed brim
Yarn: Republica Unicornia in Rambouillet Worsted in the Bonnie Mae color
Needles: US 10s
I used 186 yards of yarn or 95 grams. This was 115 gram skein so I left 20 grams on the table. In hindsight I could have made this a wee bit taller. Kind of a fatal flaw in my process based on my fear of playing yarn chicken. Still a perfectly serviceable adult hat in the end.
