Yarns: K-Zip Knits Waterfront Worsted in Sterling and Blacklight
Needles: US9s
This cowl turned out to be a decent size. It is on the smaller side and I didn’t gauge swatch so I’m not surprised. But its warm, soft and very serviceable. I am still deciding if this will be a keeper or a gift.
I managed to create some more cute tiny things. This is a Tiny Tree Sock and a Wee Sweater from Imagined Landscapes.
This is the day two color of my Chromatic Yarns 2021 Advent Calendar. It’s a lovely tonal green color and I barely use any yarn at all to make these. They are a bit fiddly and usually take a full evening plus a little to finish both.
I still have 22 days to go, lol. But I feel a garland coming in my future! Happy Knitting!!
Y’all, I made a beautiful thing! I am so happy with this hat that I can’t stop looking at it and petting it. My first Musselburgh is done, washed and photographed!
Yarn: Yak Sock in Hectate color by Moonstone Dyeworks
Needles: US 2s
I know I was working the instructions for the adult large but I do think I added like 10 extra increases to the stich count. That means I should have gone up a needle size. The fabric leans to the firmer side. But it’s a lovely super warm hat. And the subtle tonality of the browns and greys is gorgeous.
This hat isn’t necessarily long enough to cuff up but it fits just fine as a standard beanie. This is a keeper for my woolen drawer. Mother Nature here in Kansas is wildly swinging from negative temps to the high forties. So my need for a warm hat is variable, lol.
I purposely ended with a complete striping sequence for not other reason than whimsy. I used all but 26 yards of this 218 yard skein. It is a decent sized that can roll the brim or be worn slouchy.
In my stash I have matching Knit Picks Felici sock yarn in this same color. So next up in my knitting plans is to knit up some vanilla socks to have a matched set. I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep the set or put in my gift box. The matchy matchy is just filling some sort of need in my crafting brain.
A few special people in my life are expecting babies in the new year. So I couldn’t let those babies have cold heads!!
This yarn is some Super Bulky spindle spun handspun from 2020. I decided they needed to be baby beanies. I pulled out some size 10 dpns and just invented hats on the fly. I used up every single inch of precious handspun and came out with two cute hats.
PB loaned me a baby doll so I could take glamor shots. I still need to wash them and get them wrapped up. But that is for another day!
I completely forgot that I had a finished object kicking around here to show you! My Baby Blend Basic Hat pretty much fell off my needles and into my hat drawer!
Pattern: None, I just worked an 80 stitch beanie with a folded two layer brim
Yarn: The Shepherd’s Mill BAby Blend in color M196
Needles: US 7 and US 8
I got sooooo close to using the whole skein but alas I still had leftovers. I used 80 grams or just right at 176 yards of this DK weight skein. The hat was tight before washing and blocking but relaxed nicely and fits like a dream. The faux cashmere makes this feel like butter on my head.
I did find a dropped stitch after washing. After a few cuss words I simply used some of the leftovers and caught the stitch and secured it to the inside of the hat. I REALLY like how this hat turned out so this might also stay in my hat bin for awhile…..
The socks that tried to beat me at every turn are DONE! My Dad’s 2021 Christmas socks are done and knit to the correct size this time, lol.
Pattern: My own “recipe” of a toe up sock with 68 stitches
Yarn: Regia 6-fadig in color #6974
Needles: US 2s
I don’t really have sock blockers that fit the socks for my dad/husband who wear size 13 US men’s shoes. So I make do with my sized blockers but it always makes me giggle because I feel like a child trying to wear adult sized things, lol.
I feel great to have these finally done and ready to wrap up for Christmas. Am I totally ready for Christmas? Heck no, but this is at least one thing off my list!
Yarn: Cloudborn Fibers Superwash Merino Fingering in Antique white held double with my Teal Torch Knits 2020 Christmas advent calendar
Needles: US 9s
This was my LAST project to use up all my lingering advent calendar yarns before my 2021 calendar shows up. It feels really super good to get this yarn used up and into beautiful project. I think this shawl/wrap will go to work as my “work blanket” when winter really starts to hit. The two end triangles are not perfectly matched but they are close enough for me and anyone who looks too close will get a bop on the nose!
This project was a marled one holding two fingering weight yarns double. I used up an amazing 2,201 yards of yarn! And it wrap nicely around my whole upper torso. I forgot to measure the finished dimensions but I’m guessing its roughly 7 feet long about about 2.5 feet wide. Super cozy! And you can’t even hardly tell where I grafted the last part!
My drought of FOs has been broken! My Advent Socks #3 are finally done, blocked and ready for my feet!
Pattern: My own 68 stitch toe up vanilla sock recipe with a gusset heel
Yarn: agirlandherwool 2020 advent mini skeins
Needle: US 1
Mods: None
I used roughly 84 grams of yarn to finish off these socks. And that equate to all but two yards of the very last mini skein from my advent calendar. I still have a good chunk of the full skein that came with the calendar but that is a bridge for another day. I am counting this as a win towards my goal of finishing off all my previous advent calendars before my 2021 calendars get here.
The socks fit fairly well and the BFL feel sturdy on my feet. I have already tucked these into my sock drawer to be ready for whenever fall decides to actually come to the Midwest, lol.
As promised, here is my finished Bifrost. It has had a good bath and blocking.
Pattern: Bifrost by Cate Carter-Evans
Yarn: Cloudborn Fibers Superwash Merino Singles in Antique White and Cornbread and Honey Superwash Merino Fingering in the 2019 Advent calendar
Needles: US 9s
Mods: I changed the cast on to 100 stitches
I definitely made a few mistakes in this wrap. I have increases where there should decreases and vice versa. I would count every so often and would almost always have more than the 100 I started with. I just chose to decrease those away and move on. So my wrap isn’t perfectly straight but its wonderfully warm.
I really like how the colors faded from purple through browns and finally towards teal. This project is LARGE. I used 2,172 yards of yarn that roughly equates to five and a half skeins of fingering weight yarn. I am super happy with this stashbusting project.
I would totally make this project again and I’m already daydreaming my next garter wrap!
