Little Wolf Knits Haul

Back in November I won a prize from the 2024 Pigskin Party KAL and that was a gift card from thelittlewolfknits online yarn store.

I ordered this in early December and it arrived just in time for year end hat knitting. I grabbed a Pigskin Party KAL special color way in worsted (orange), some nuetral mohair silk to hold in my hats and then another (teal) worsted skein for PB inspired hat.

This is a new to me dyer and she was delightful during the order process. I am excited to see how her yarn feels. I need to get this orange one started soon as it will earn me bonus points in the KAL!

Black Friday Buys

I was enticed on Black Friday into the TreasureGoddess Yarn sale. I made quite the haul and then saved and wrapped up for my Christmas gift.

I bought the Touchdown Beanie kit with Chiefs colors. This is a DK had that comes with colorwork instructions. I need to pre-wash and make sure the red is color set so I don’t get any bleeding. But I am very excited about this hat. (The instructions also have a Swiftie version but I think I will make the Chiefs one).

I also grabbed two “color your own” little project bags. I got buterflies and yarn/wine with a set of sharpies. I think this will be my art project to work on while the kids color on their new art books from Christmas.

I also got some treats tucked in for the sale and that was the gold tote bag and a few stitch markers. I am excited to get working on all of these!

Cast On: Meaningful Handspun Hat

Santa comes tonight and I’m in need of plain autopilot knitting. I gifted almost ALL of the hats I knit this year and it felt so good. And now I have a little urge to refill that bin!

So I decided to grab a skein from my bag of hat yarn and start. This one is a little special as it’s handspun. This was my Deep & Meaningful 2ply from this summer. It’s heavy DK to worsted and it should make a lovely squishy hat.

I am working on my US 10.5 needles and 72 stitches. Totally have not swatched and not sure this gauge will work. And I can always rip out and start over. And I may find that I don’t have enough yardage as well. I really feel like living dangerously at the end of 2024!

Happy Knitting!!

Fairy Tale Decreases

Plodding along has it benefits. My Fairy Tale beanie is sliding into the holidays and into the decreases!

I put my big girl pants on and counted my pattern repeats. I decided to do 8 full repeats before the deceases to add some extra height to the finished hat. There is enough hat now to see that DK cashmere yarn is flashing/pooling a little bit. The yellow bits looks a bit like a lightning bolt to me and I kinda like it.

Now I need to dig out stitch markers so I can set up the decrease section….and then you know…..actual knit them!

Finished: Cherub Hat

I wanted to be done with this stinking hat so badly that I powered through. My Cherub Hat is done and ready for the gift pile.

Pattern: My own beanie recipe with 90 stitches and a folded stockinette brim

Needles: US 8s

Yarn: Cascade Yarns in Cherub Aran in the color Navy

Total yardage come out to 75 grams using 180 yards. And I added my cute little personal tag to this hat. The yarn was just so darn splitty the whole time and it attracted dog hair like no one’s business. This yarn was definitely not a good use for a hat. But here we are done and its fine.

I need to focus on my Blitz Blanket but I am finding myself dreaming of my next hats…..

Happy Knitting!!

Slowly Patterning

My Fairy Tale Beanie has been at the bottom of my prioritization list but I have added a few more pattern repeats.

This is still very very soft with the cashmere content under the mohair. I did however fail to keep track of my repeats. I think I need 7 or 8 total? Now I will have to go back and count the bumps to try and count where I am at. Not ideal, but the natural consequences of my choices.

I am hoping to finish this by year end just to have that hit of dopamine going into the new year. Happy Knitting!!

Catching Up Socks

I love love love the Cozy Knitter advent socks. This is my 3rd year and she always does such a great job.

Typical mom life, I’m way behind but I adore the nights when I get to sit down and work on my stripes. This pic is around day 11. I am still trying to decide if there is a pattern of the colors? They do seem to have a repetition of color families?

Also, was I going to use the white contrast to do little blips in between colors, yes. Did I remember to do that, no. I will have a second repeat of these 24 color sequence and I can try that design feature for the second pair.

Happy Knitting (and remembering)!!

So Snaggy

Thanks to a trip to the theaters and Moana 2, my Cherub hat has a brim! Great movie by the way, I will totally watch again when it streams.

My yarn is some really deep/old stash of Cascade Cherub Aran leftover from a baby sweater 10 years ago. I had forgotten how splitty and fussy this yarn was. I have to mind the plies very carefully.

The yarn is incredibly soft and feels great on the skin as it is a nylon and acrylic blend. I could have done to go down a needle size to US 7s as the fabric is a little loose and see through when not doubled over. But there is no going back now! This will likely end up as a charity hat or gift hat. I like my wool and wool blend hats!

Finished: Frankenstein Hat #2

Frankenstein Hat #2 is done and dusted (okay, well washed)

Pattern: Musselburgh (kind of) by Ysolda Teague

Yarn: Scraps all listed here (Rav link)

Needles: US 8s

I really like how I chose to use the browns in the middle. It makes the hat look consistent but VERY different depending on which side you face out. The orange comes across very hunting themed/blaze orange. And the green side reads more fall vibes, to me.

This used up 218 yards of yarn and every bit of scraps for each of these colors. I had a teeny bit of green left at cast off but I just tucked that on the inside as I closed up the hat. Extra insulation! I get so much satisfaction from using up scraps and closing out those stash entries on Ravelry!

Happy Knitting!!

The Last Scrap

My second Frankenstein Hat has reached the point where it is falling off my needles. I cruised through two more brown scraps and nearly reached the total length.

I am just now attaching the final green color. I didn’t weigh my cast on like I should have to know how many grams I need for the cast off. So I am embarking on yarn chicken. Worst case, its worsted and I rip back and redo. Or it could work out great and I will have a finished hat!

Happy Knitting!!
