I Win At Yarn Chicken

I did it, I finished Bifrost. And I totally won yarn chicken!!

I ended up with a nugget of my main advent mini skein yarn. I would imagine its roughly two or three yards. And for my Cloudborn singles, I have a slightly larger than golf ball sized leftover. I am very proud of my yarn usage on this one!

I’ll gather my wits and share the FO and its stats tomorrow! Happy Knitting!!

Remoting And Knitting

I have had to return to the office full time but I immediately turned around and had a two day leadership training, lol. So I took full advantage and used my hours and hours on zoom to try and finish my Bifrost.

I really was able to work through at least two mini skeins worth of advent skeins. I have about a mini and a half left to go. I really hope to be done by this Friday. This project is FAR from perfect but it is very squishy and soft. It has been very soothing to knit row after row of garter stitch.

I’m already planning my next garter wrap 🙂

Knitting At Night

Bifrost continues to be my main focus here lately. I took some time this week to relax after the kiddos went to bed. I had squishy garter and Murder She Wrote on the TV. It was wonderful.

Love me some Jessica Fletcher. And man, do the 80s and 90s bring back some memories and nostalgia. (I’m old but no so old to have watched this originally but I did watch re-runs after school.)

I’m starting to see pops of teal showing up in my minis. So I’m getting through the neutrals and progressing to some full blown tonal teal minis at the end. I’m intrigued to see how the “fade” progresses.

Bifrost On The Wild

The temperatures around here are slowly coming down. Enough for this momma to agree to a morning park adventure before it really gets crowded. COVID is flaring badly around here so I am balancing fun activities with safe activities. But this isn’t a COVID blog so I digress.

I packed my Bifrost along for the trip. I managed maybe two or three rows in between chasing kids across the massive park and pushing swings. But for a few minutes I was in the warm sun with soft yarn running between my fingers.

Bifrost-ing Along

My Bifrost is speeding right along. I am through most of the purple minis and I’m in the neutral creams and browns. It’s starting to get heavy and warm in my lap!

Thanks to TV watching (and possibly a glass of wine) I have on occasion added an extra stitch here and there. I have decided perfection is my enemy in this case and when I discover the extras I am just decreasing them away. Makes for a few lumps and bumps but no one will EVER notice in a garter shawl of this size.

The one thing I am fixing is where I split the yarns. I am marling my 2019 advent minis with skeins of Cloudborn merino singles. So I want to make sure every stitch uses both yarns, for strength purposes. So when I discover those stitches I am dropping down to fix them.

I should be approaching halfway with this project and couldn’t be happier! Happy Knitting!!

Decision Point: All My Stitches

I am at a decision point with my All My Stitches. I have already gone past the pattern number of increases….but I can’t decide to do more or start the next pattern section. Which is a long slow decrease section.

I don’t want to play yarn chicken but I also don’t want to have yarn leftover or not use all the colors. If I get towards the end I could manage my colors to make sure I get some of each color in but that would leave me with leftovers. I kind of have my heart set on using all of the advent. I guess I didn’t make the best pattern selection for that, lol.

Time for thinking….

Bifrost Progress

I have my Bifrost back on track and I’m really pleased with this version. I ended up with casting on 100 stitches to make this more of a wrap rather than a scarf. I have even moved into the second color!

So far this second mini skein is just lighter more variegated version of the first mini. The first mini was a tonal purple. And this second is a variegated white/light purple. And the slipped stitch edge is making my orderly brain happy.

I have set an arbitrary goal of finishing this by September 1st and before the 2021 Pigskin Party KAL kicks off. No WIPs allowed in that one so I want to crank out this yardage before I move to scoring those touchdown points.

So Freaking Close

Huzzah for paper clips as they work in a pinch when you don’t have stitch markers! I am now ready for the second cuff on my Purple Rain Vanilla Socks. 🙂

I *think* was able to match up the increases fairly well with the first sock. It really did help to have the increases marked visibly on my first sock. I could follow along and know when to add in an increase on the second. It actually made the knitting faster and easier.

I have one tiny little cuff left and I can move this project to the finished column. Literally CANNOT WAIT! 🙂

Cast On: Bifrost Advent

After I ripped out my Wool and Waves advent shawl AND getting my Cloudborn order in, I was ready to cast on my next garter shawl/scarf project. This is the last project I need to “finish all the advent yarn before the new advent yarn comes in the fall”, lol.

I picked the Bifrost pattern by Cater Carter Evans. And I started this project as the pattern instructed for stitch count and stitch pattern. But for one, I didn’t like the garter edging and I wanted a wider project. I did go up several needle sizes to try and make the scarf bigger. I just want more….

So I ripped back the whole darn thing. Which was, if I may say, a nightmare! The soft merino singles stuck to EVERYTHING and ITSELF. I did have to rip one section out and fix it itself. But I managed to get all the yarn back to ball state.

I took some gauge measurements before I ripped, so now I just need a few minutes to run some calculations in excel. I’m going to keep the stitch pattern but work in a slipped stitch edge. And I will cast on more stitches than the pattern….I just needs to do the math to determine how many.

Advent Wrapping

My current mojo has been more locked in to my advent/marling projects. The second advent color has been added All My Stitches. This next color is a very light pink and blends nicely with the white Opal sock yarn.

I REALLY like how the i-cord edge looks on this project. I gives the piece a nice finished or polished looking edge. My brain doesn’t always remember however and I do tend to have to tink back to fix. It’s super easy to just knit all the way across.

I’m already hacking this pattern as I’m not following their color changes. I’m a little concerned that I won’t use all of my rainbow gradient. Therefore I am considering adding some more increases than the pattern calls for. I could be setting myself up for yarn chicken but I wouldn’t mind a huge squishy wrap either.

I might set this one down for a think/time out….
