Memory Mojo Unlocked

My blanket mojo has fired up after the holiday haze has lifted. I have added NINE squares since last I showed this off last time.

I finished off an entire row and started a brand new one. This newest row is leftovers from my tiny sweaters and tiny socks from the 2021 Chromatic Yarns advent calendar. I still have a tiny nub of yarn leftover after I complete all three things. So those are going into my scrap stash.

I have 24 minis and 17 squares across, so when I hit the end of the row I will have to decide to go to another row or add an additional column. What do you think??

The Weather Outside is Delightful

It’s definitely getting colder here in Kansas. I decided to pull out my scrappy memory blanket to work on in between my 2022 Advent Socks. Since the daily stripe on my socks doesn’t take much time I thought this was a perfect companion project.

Based on the project keeper, I have added roughly 16 blocks to this since this past April. The bonus factor is that this keeps my lap quite warm while I am working on it. This piece is large enough to cover me from toes to shoulders. And the multi-colored stained glass look is really making my knitting soul fulfilled!

Happy Knitting!!

Blanket Scunchie

Thanks to PB’s makeup gymnastics practices my Chromatic Yarns ZigZag blanket now looks like a scrunchie!

There are over 300 stitches on the needles so it takes me approximately 45 minutes to do the pattern and return row on this zig-zag. Needless to say, this might be an all winter long WIP, lol.

I have roughly 10 rows completed with like a million to go. Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Chromatic Yarns Zigzag Blanket

I couldn’t wait any longer, I cast on a Zigzag blanket from my stash of Chromatic Yarns DK.

This will hopefully be throw sized as there are over 300 stitches on my needles. It was a lot of counting to get the zig zag set up successfully. But now I hope it’s going to cruise along. I am using size 5 needles with DK weight yarn.

I have the colors laid out to make a fade of sorts. I will knit until I run out of my current color and then add the next. The yarn is variegated enough that I don’t think actually fading would add that much. So simple and stead it is!

This should make for some cozy winter knitting. Happy Knitting!!

Enough For A Blanket

I have had this niggling idea in my brain for awhile now. I have a fiber fondness for The Corner of Craft and her Chromatic Yarn (inspired by Dungeons and Dragons). I felt like I had developed a nice amount of her DK stashed up, and I was correct.

Through various purchases I have a total of 10 skeins of DK. Six skeins are from her Resistance collection last year and the others have been standalone purchases. Looking at it all laid out, I think I have a really cute blanket to be made here! I arranged the skeins in a fade with two darker skeins for a border.

Looking at the photo now, I may move a couple of the purples around. But I am torn between a crochet project and knitted project. And do I find a pattern or just make something up as I go to be my own designer?

So many possibilities and so many ideas!!

Airing Of The Blanket

My Sock yarn memory blanket has seen the light of day again thanks to my lack of mental bandwidth.

I have actually added several squares since I last showed you all. If you look SUPER close you can see the progress marker on the row second from the right about 2/3 of the way up on the dark pink square. So rough count, I’ve added almost 12 squares.

It feels good to work on something easy and to touch some of these scraps again. The blanket is pretty large at this point and keeps my lap comfy warm. I will finish my current row and maybe measure what size I am at.

Happy Knitting!!

Easy Crochet Blanket (Minimal) Progress

I’m in the mood to empty some yarn bins and use up some yarn that has been patiently waiting its turn. And my favorite way to use up yarn and still create a usable object? Break out the crochet hook and hold yarn double!

Awhile back I had cast on in a fit of productivity all my Caron Simply Soft single skeins into a washing machine friendly crochet blanket. I am still only in the first skein but I’m pretty happy with the fabric I’m getting. I am doing my version of a half double crochet border and then I’m going to pop in some decorative eyelets.

Right now I still need to look at my crochet as I work so I can’t watch super suspenseful TV shows. This is great podcast crafting! I have set an internal goal of finishing this by Thanksgiving to get my stash worked down.

Happy Crochet!

Cast On: Easy Crochet Blanket

My next cast on is a strategic stash busting project that will hopefully earn a lot of points in the Down Cellar Studio Pigskin Party KAL. I had a lot of baby-ish colors of Caron Simply Soft kicking around in my stash from my early knitting days. I played around with my colors and came up with a sequence of colors that please me.

I’ll begin and end with off white and then have a sequence of colors in the middle. I usually do my crochet using half double crochet stitch. I may go wild and add some eyelets this time?

I pulled out a 7mm hook to start with. I really don’t want to fuss with gauge so I will just start working and see how the fabric develops. If I don’t like it I can rip it out and start over!

Happy Crochet!

Sunshine On My Blanket

As promised, I did find some space and time to lay out my Sock Yarn Memory Blanket. Grass is a little dry as we haven’t had much rain but the sun was glorious and made the colors really pop.

Before my latest KAL started this month I managed to add seven new squares to the blanket before it went back into hibernation. (The blanket won’t earn me any points as I won’t finish it during the knit a long). Pretty decent progress on such a long term WIP

I am running high on variegated scraps and low on solid scraps. So I may need to dig around in bag to balance out the look I’m shooting for. I am also fairly low on self striping leftovers as well. But all that is a decision for future Rachelle!

Happy Knitting!!

Comfortable Memories

My memory blanket has seen some knitting time this early. I treated myself to a professional pedicure and then snuggled up under my WIP while watching podcasts. It was an all too short self care session but every little bit helps.

If my schedule and daylight cooperates, I will try to get outside and take some pictures of the full blanket in natural light. My mom commented when she saw it that it looks like the Technicolor Dreamcoat from the musical, lol.

Happy Knitting!!
