Too Foggy For These Needles

I’ve made some progress on my Mighty Rainbow Blanket. I’m almost through the second skein, orange.

But my old faithful Denise interchangeables just can’t keep up as this blanket gets heavier and heavier. The cable joins just keeping coming unsnapped and I’m too much in pain and foggy to deal with picked up stitches. So I had the hubby run out and picked up some Hiya Hiya wooden 29 inch circ. He’s a good husband!

Happy Knitting!!

Awe Fork….

My Old Man of Storr and I had a little disagreement. Last night it looked like this.  Looks great right? Well I was listening to the Olympics and worked two lace rows wrong….awe fork!

Not to worry, I had lifelines right? Wrong, helpful hands in the form of toddler or canine had pulled on the string and the lifeline was only halfway through my piece. I should be mad but it’s only my fault for not putting this away when I set it down. So now my shawl looks like this….

I ripped back to the garter section and started the lace over. It may be  a blessing in disguise as now I can fix the wonky set up row from my first attempt. I now know how the lace should work and hopefully I can read it better this time and not get off track! Wish me luck 😜

Happy Knitting!

And So It Begins

I’ve finished the garter section of my Old Man of Storr shawlette.

There were a couple of nights that between the late hour and a glass of vino that caused a few dropped stitches☺️. I tried using my double ended crochet hook to fix them but ultimately I hated how the tension looked. I tinked back the 200+ stitch rows and reknit and it was worth every redone stitch. Now the garter is perfect and my stitch count perfect!

I’ve installed a lifeline (black crochet thread) and tomorrow I’ll start the lace rows! Wish me luck

My Baby Loves Knitting

Thanks to my wonderful husband and Jellybean I had a successful Mothers Day Cast On!

I managed to get the yarn wound (no small feet with this being a 600 yard skein and using my 1990s plastic ball wonder) and the pattern printed. The pattern is Old Man of Storr by Carie Harling for those with inquiring minds.

I’m in the garter section and it’s nice easy knitting. I only have to keep track of four increases and make sure I know the right side and wrong side. The yarn is a cashmere blend and absolutely delicious! I’m not sure how much love this will get as I have a couple small projects in mind to get done soon. But it doesn’t matter because it was wonderful to knit on Mother’s Day and associate some great memories of little toddler hands helping me in those stitches.

Happy Knitting!

The Project of Loathing

I really wanted a blanket on the needles this winter. I do so love snuggling under a warm winter project while the snow is swirling outside. Thus I cast on my Knitted Chevron Baby Blanket in a rainbow theme with some Homespun from DEEP stash.

It’s a pretty straight forward garter stitch chevron blanket. Back in November I started with red and only got three rows done and it’s been sitting ever since.

I just don’t like it and I have tried really hard to like it. The texture of the homespun obscures the pattern. It’s incredibly hard to “read” as I knit. I have zero desire to pick this up. So this iteration is going to the frog pond. But I really want to use this yarn in a blanket! Stitch definition is going to be a problem so I was leaning towards a straight up garter rectangle with the rainbow colors progressing in order.  Though I really feel that a baby blanket needs a distinct border to look a little more polished and finished.

I have black yarn in Homespun so I could outline the rainbow square to set off the colors. Perhaps I could work a small seed or moss stitch black section at the beginning and end of the blanket. Then pick up and knit the long sides of the blanket log cabin style. Or maybe it should be ribbing instead of seed stitch?

Any thoughts from the blogging world?

FO Friday: Snug #2

My second attempt at Snug is done!! This pattern is by Hinke.

20130907-103838.jpg

This is not my first swing at this pattern and it won’t be the last! I used 212 grams or 288.3 yards of Knit Picks Brava Bulkly in Peapod. That’s just about 2 skeins plush a little of a third skein. The body is worked flat. The sleeves are done on DPNs. And the hood is knit flat and closed withe Kitchener stitch.

I was not has happy with this sweater as I was with my first sweater. The shoulders are ugly to me. For whatever reason, I didn’t get the arm decreases placed very well. They are visible along the top. And the the sewing I did on the seams on the shoulders is not as clean as I would like. But I am assured by my husband that he can’t see it. Oh…#knitter problems

The part of this sweater that I really love is the buttons. I spotted them at JoAnns and I was in love!! The watermelons really save this project for me. I deviated from the pattern a bit and added four buttons instead of the pattern request of three.

Into the FO stash this one goes. I love having some cuteness hidden away for a rainy day! Happy Friday to all!!!

Git R Done….Knitting Style

I AM DONE!!!! This made this balaclava my b*tch!!! This multipurpose project is finally a FO.

20130908-175152.jpg

Introducing to you, Garter Stitch Chunky Balaclava/Beanie by Christine Grant. This has been one of the few patterns I have actually paid for. And for the most part it has lived up to it’s price.

20130908-175208.jpg

I used Knit Picks Swish Worsted in Lost Lake Heather. I used 126 grams or about 278.3 yards of yarn. That is about 2 1/2 skeins of yarn.

20130908-175222.jpg

I had a few bumps along the way with this project here , here, and here, oh and here!  But I managed to Git R Done (to paraphrase a certain Cable Guy)! This took me far longer to knit that it should have. But sometimes good projects have to have time outs once in awhile!

20130908-175239.jpg

As you can see you can wear it as a beanie or as a balaclava. I kind of like the dual purpose of the project. And the yarn is a wool blend that will be very warm. Did you know that wool still keeps you warm even when it’s wet? How cool is that? I really hope this keeps my coworker warm this winter.

Oh and a big thank you to my husband who modeled for me after I was done knitting…..this last picture pretty much says it all, lol

So Close….Yet So Far…

Frustration be damned! My Stashbustin’ #26 is rolling now!!!

20130908-175101.jpg

After a couple of miscues on the pattern (my fault not the authors) I powered through the remaining flat portions of the pattern.

20130908-175113.jpg

I found the brim portion to be a bid fiddly but I persevered. All I have left is to seam the back, knit the ribbed side face panels, and finally sew down the brim. I cannot wait to finish this one, both so I can give this to the recipient and so I can finally be rid of this knit!! I hope to have some later tonight to officially put this one in the FO column!

Oh and weave in all those pesky ends, of which there are a lot. Oh so close but yet so far…..

Stashbustin’ #26: Garter Stitch Balaclava

Remember the yarn splurge I showed you last Friday? Well some of that yarn is for a good cause!

Stashbustin’ #26: Garter Stitch Balaclava and Beanie by Christine Grant!

20130731-120507.jpg

I have a coworker who works tirelessly outside all winter to keep those of us indoor warm and safe. Last winter he showed me his hat/balaclava that had seen better days and asked for a replacement. My first attempts last winter were not all that successful.

So I’m giving this pattern a go in Knit Picks Shine Worsted in Lost Lake Heather. I’m hoping this Aran weight yarn and garter stitch go quickly so my coworker isn’t waiting for me come fall!

Now I just need to measure his head so I know what size I need to make!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Spiral Staircase Shawl

20130701-194553.jpg

Stashbustin’ #20 is done! Introducing my Spiral Staircase Shawl!!

20130701-194751.jpg

I made a few amendments to the pattern:
– I cast off 12 stitches instead of the 10 called for the pattern
– I worked a total 17 teeth

20130701-195016.jpg

This is a very narrow shawl and probably not incredibly warm. But it looks amazing against a black outfit. Wouldn’t this be an amazing pop of color with some red heels and a LBD?

20130701-195213.jpg

All in all a very nice warm up project for learning shawl construction. Row and row of garter stitch with just a smidge of lacy detail at the edges.

20130701-195346.jpg

Now what should my next shawl be? I’ll have to ponder on this…..

Happy Knitting!
