Kansas Is More Than Flat

Thanks to Thanksgiving travel, the family decided to take the scenic route to see family. That takes us through the tall grass prairies of the Flint Hills of Kansas.

There is an overlook right off the highway that we pulled off for. You can go right up to the edge of the bluff and look out for MILES. It’s fully fall now so the foliage is gone but it is still pretty spectacular

The kids and I stopped to read about the features of the North American tall grass prairie. And then hustled back to the car because it was super cool and super windy. Sometimes its nice to remember that Kansas is more than just flat land, lol.

Fiber From The Flurry

Since I can’t really knit right now, I decided to organize my Fiber Flurry purchases. Turns out, I bough all fiber!

On top, there is some merino and assorted fiber batt from HLA Fiber Mill. It’s just over 2 ounces and will make a cute skein in PB’s color scheme.

On the bottom left is 4.7 ounces of alpaca and firestar roving. IT’S SO SUPER SOFT! This was leftover It’s from Grey Meadows Alpaca farm and is the leftovers from their mill runs. I got a chance to chat with the owner and he was super fun.

Lastly, on the bottom right is a new to me sheep breed – Finn Sheep. I grabbed three ounces of the natural color dark brown. I will need to pull out my fiber/fleece source book in order to learn more about the breed. But these sheep are from the 14 Hand Ranch.

I think either the Finn or the pink batt will be the first on my wheel once my hand is back to normal! Happy Spinning!!

I Maimed Myself

I may have gotten into a “marital discussion” with the hubby that led me to aggressively cleaning the garage yesterday. Whelp, I managed to smash the knuckle of my middle finger between two heavy objects.

Fairly certain it is sprained or deeply bruised. It has made it painful to knit as that finger needs to bend in order to hold my needles in my fashion. I should know not to do things in the heat of frustration. So now I’m off to ice and rest my hand!

I Repeat, I Love My Kids

I left my knitting out over the weekend, huge mistake. PB decided to consume yogurt smoothie and leave her “empty” container on my knitting.

By the time I found it, there was dried yogurt on my Super Simple Summer Sweater….(left photo).

The good news is that I used some cool running water and managed to get all the yogurt off relatively easily (right photo). Now, I just need to wait for the body to try so that I can resume knitting. Sigh, I love my children I really do. But sometimes they vex me!

One Full Sleeve

I am taking sleeve island by storm! the first sleeve of my Super Simple Summer Sweater is complete and I have a great start on the second!

The sleeves took less yarn than I anticipated which makes me feel more comfortable about finishing the second sleeve. I’ll be able to use the same two skeins that will give the sleeves a consistent color look. I left the lightbulb stitch markers in so that I can match the decreases.

I purposely did not complete the bind off. I want to finish the sweater and try it on to see if the sleeves are too long or to short. I left some tiny balls of yarn tucked in the sleeves so that I can finish later. Not having the body complete, I didn’t want to risk it. I’d rather leave it open that unpick a bind off, lol.

On to the second sleeve! Happy Knitting!!

Spinning Lamb Again

My wheel has been a little quite lately. I decided to pull out a the fiber and partial bobbin of lamb I started way back when.

This custom blend is a longwool mix. It’s very different from the merino and other fibers I have been spinning. I’m not sure I am enjoying it, to be honest. I am about halfway through the fiber. I am really having a hard time mustering the desire to spin this. There is nothing wrong with it and I am making successful singles. It just feels like a slog.

I may put this back in timeout and pull out some different fiber that brings me joy?

Slow Sleeve Progress

I am cruising along on my first sleeve of my Super Simple Summer Sweater (Joji pattern). I managed to add in four more decreases during PB’s weekly gymnastics practice.

I can see some color striping and differences in the sleeves versus the body. But with this type of kettle dyed yarn, I don’t expect perfection. So far the decreases are fitting my robust upper arms just fine. It’s fitted without being stretched tight.

I am now more confident that I will get two sleeves out of the two cakes of yarn with leftovers enough to help finish out the body. I should be able to eek out long sleeves and a longer body, win win!!

Cast On: Punch Bug Vanilla Socks

After finishing my UniZebraCorn socks last week, I started another pair of vanilla socks. I’m calling these my Punch Bug Vanilla socks!

First of all, this cast on is brought to you by a child’s birthday party at the local trampoline park. The only reason I stayed sane was a podcast in my earbud and knitting in my hands. That place is insanely loud but it SURE does wear my kiddos out.

I had to grab this project quickly, so I grabbed some Knit Picks felici sock yarn because it didn’t require any winding. The colorway is called Punch Bug and I have a full sock quantity and a worsted skein to make a matching hat. I’m using my standard 68 stitch count and knitting round and round in a tube.

This is also likely to be my purse/meeting knitting. I don’t have many autopilot projects on the go right now. So these socks will be important to my rotation, lol. Happy Knitting!!

Happy Anniversary To Me!

Happy Anniversary to me! I have been jotting down my thoughts on this blog for 11 years. Fairly certain that is longer than I’ve stuck to anything!!

Thank you all for coming along for the ride. I love that I have this space to share my crafty content so that my loved ones don’t have to bombarded with it all the time. Here’s to many more years of sending my knitting vibes out into the universe!
