Where is Spring!?

Did I jinx myself by knitting a spring sweater? It’s been cold and damp and stormy in the plains. We desperately need the moisture but I haven’t seen the sun in a week! Starting to get grumpy….

We had some severe thunderstorms roll through last night. I think between the storms and all the packing for our move my fur babies are very unsettled.

Dex didn’t want me to knit. You aren’t even safe when brushing your teeth!

Our dogs aren’t scared in the sense they freak out. They just become very clingy, lol. See exhibit A of our 90 lb lab trying to be a lap puppy!

At bedtime all four of us tried to fit on a king sized bed. For me it was incredibly soothing to be snuggled up with all my favorite people (dogs can be people too) and falling asleep to the sounds of thunder. However, a particularly noxious fart from the lab got him relocated to the dog bed on the floor, lol.

Hopefully we can see some sun this weekend! We are t-minus 12 days to closing and t-minus 23 days to moving!

Finally Friday

I have been swamped this week. I have accomplished some FOs, but they’ve not been photographed. Work is crazy lately and today is the 1st business day of the month and I’ll likely put in 9-10 hours easy.

So instead of a knitting post or whining about my packed schedule please enjoy some photos of my ridiculously cute dogs! I promise to work hard this weekend and have FO posts next week.

TGIF!

Animal Antics

My latest knitting craze coupled with my husbands new job has left the pups in our house very put out. Neither of us is home during the day and it gets dark early here in Kansas. We haven’t even been able to get to our park runs very regularly either. I think they have cabin fever….

Dex has been pulling out ALL his toys and blankets and leaving them EVERY WHERE. Let me tell you it’s a joy to find the sharp edge of a nylon chew bone on the way to the bathroom with your bare foot at 3 am. I can’t blame the poor pup for being cooped up this winter, but he’s wearing on my nerves!

Good thing he’s cute otherwise he’d be in trouble! I wish everyone a very happy Friday! Don’t forget to have a little fun, TGIF! The pups and I are going to have a long walk and then a dog biscuit scavenger hunt in the house!!

Family Photos

The Mathews household was short on funds this year for the holiday season so we decided to take an alternative approach. A dear friend of mine is an amazing photographer and he agreed to help us out. So on a very cold October day we tromped around a local park to take a few photos. There was a wedding in the same park and at least two photography clubs running around. The dogs were so wound up by all this activity that they were spectacularly uncooperative. We managed to at least get two good family shots, which were then turned into Christmas cards and framed photos for Christmas gifts.

Not so bad right? The family really loved them as gifts and it was nice to give gifts from the heart (and save a little money)!

We had few minutes of good light left and so I had the photographer snap a few new head shots for my work/linkedin profile/facebook/etc. I haven’t had a head shot taken since I was 18 years old, lol.

Now I’m off to some knitting and cleaning. I am attending my first meeting of a local crochet/knitting guild and I want to choose some items to donate to their knitting for charity baskets! I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow afternoon!

Happy Knitting!!!

Christmas Preparations

My unbelievably wonderful husband decorated our entire house all by himself. I’ll admit to being a little grinchy, but his wonderful surprise helped me beat the grinch! So I did the last of our shopping today, wrapped all our gifts, and cleaned the house.

As a reward, I treated myself to a homemade mocha, some scarf knitting, and my newest book! So here I sit relaxing under the stockings waiting for Christmas to get here…..

Are you ready for Christmas?

Family Photo Outtakes

We wanted a Christmas card photo this year for the first time since we got married. Well….the dogs were less than cooperative to say the least. But on the bright side I have a hilarious outtake to show you!!

Notice the people look fine, the dog on the left looks a bit intoxicated, and the dog on the right is very unimpressed. Thankfully the photographer got at least a couple good shots (but those are for Christmas presents so I can’t post yet)!

Happy Holidays!!!

All things can wait, at least for a little bit

Craft fair went surprisingly well! I doubled my sales from the same event last year. I need to trust my knitting skills and salesmanship I guess!

Today…..well, it got away from me. I managed a little cleaning, laundry, and dog walking. But mostly I snuggled and loved a precious 4 week old baby. She is so precious and teeny. Her face has a thousand expressions but her brain has a one track mind for milk, lol.

I couldn’t help but stare at her face as she slept. All I could think how perfect she is. No thoughts of knitting or schedules or dinner or cleaning……just sweet baby smells and dreamy sleep. All things can wait for babies for they don’t keep forever. They grow and change before you are ready.

So for today I sit and enjoy a lazy sunday with baby and good conversation with friends. Tomorrow is for work and responsibility…..today is for peace and innocence.

Sweet Dreams!!

Volleyball Tuesday

I have been living in my current city for five years and I started playing pick up games of volleyball on Tuesdays a couple years after we got situated. That introduced me to some wonderfully talented players and now I play every Tuesday in a competitive league with some awesome people! I played all through middle school, high school, club ball, comparatively in college, and intramural college. I LOVE volleyball!

We typically play a 4-2 system, two setters, two middle hitters, and two outsides. (This season one of our middles is 6’3″!!!! That is about as rare as finding two decent setters for one team.) Tonight we had two subs, both hitters. This meant we had to snap into a 5-1 with me playing the only setter. Boy howdy did I get a workout! I have the knots in my shoulder to prove it. Not to mention a few bumps and bruises from running into people as we tried to transition back and forth, lol.

We went 5-1 in matches for the night with a few rough stretches but we worked out the kinks eventually. Not bad for a bunch of ladies on the verge of 30 and still trying to play like we are 18!

Now for some time with my feet up and snuggling the puppies….
