Family Memories

Not long ago we made the trek to my parents house to take a family photo. It was something my sister and I arranged for our parents anniversary this past summer. We just had to wait until after jellybean was born, lol.

It was pretty cool in Kansas that day so jellybean had to be wrapped up in a blanket in most all the photos. But they are gorgeous nonetheless!

The photographer is a long time family friend and very talented. Feel free to check out her website!! She is located in North Central KS for any readers in the area.

Now the conundrum is which photos to pick!

Knitting and Snuggles

Just a quick check in from Jellybean and I!

This was a Chevron Baby blanket that I made back in 2013. It’s a Purl Bee pattern that was super addictive. And now it’s keeping my little man warm!

We haven’t accomplished much other than nursing, sleeping, and making dirty diapers. I’m just rolling with the flow and soaking up ever minute until I go back to work…

Happy Thursday!!

A Little Different FO Friday

We’ve had quite the week here at A Tangled Yarn. Jellybean chose to make his arrival two weeks early. Yep , jellybean is a boy! He is happy and healthy at 7 lbs 10oz, 21 inches, and a full head of blonde/brown hair.

My water broke at 2:30 am and we didn’t get to meet him until 8:54 that evening. Turns out he wasn’t properly positioned and a c-section was necessary. That’s 18 hours plus surgery folks…I’m beat and more than a little sore.

I’m going to be on hiatus for a bit while I heal and get used to this whole breastfeeding mommy thing. I have a few knitty things to share and I hope to sneak in a few therapeutic stitches in as well. So you might see me pop up here and there. But mostly I’m just going to snuggle my little man!

Happy Friday!

Holy Cow!

I’ve written before that my mother is also a “crafter” and I come by this urge compulsion hereditarily. Now she primarily sews, cross stitches, quilts, and crotchets. I stay firmly in knitting with a bit of sewing thrown in. Possibly a bit of mother/daughter rebellion?

But I digress….upon her last visit my mother brought this little crocheted gem for Jellybean’s nursery.

IMG_0357.JPG

This is a delightful toy made from a book she picked up at Joann’s Fabric. (I can’t remember what the title was.) But momma whipped this up in no time out of some Caron Simply soft acrylic. I have named her Betsy, fitting don’t you think? Now to find her a place to live in the nursery…

I have no doubt that this is the first of many toys and grandma surprises. Jellybean is going to up to his or her eyeballs in yarny goodness between the two of us!

Happy crafting!

Appreciation Of Craftmenship

A dear and beloved friend from my college days bestowed Jellybean and I with the most squee worthy and hormone tear inducing baby quilt.

My friends, I’m not a quilter but my mother is. I can spot quality. Let me tell you this piece is impeccably made. My dear friend commissioned this from a local quilter in the great city of Portland, OR. It’s a 100% cotton pieced top to match my nursery colors and a solid minky backing for pure heavenly delight. Not a seam out of place and made with loving care!

Pardon me while I sit in my nursery rocker and pet this lovely whilst waiting for Jellybean to get here….only 20-ish days to go! I can’t wait to wrap my little one up in this huggable blanket!

Destruction of Creativity

I just had to snap a quick photo of possibly the cutest diaper cake ever. It was a Dr Seuss themed shower. This is from my second baby shower with my bestest friends since literally pre-school. (I grew up in one of those small towns where you graduated high school with the same kids you met in pre-school)

IMG_0342.JPG

I’ve had it out on display for weeks but alas I now have to dismantle it ahead of Jellybean’s arrival. As a knitter and hand crafter there is just a little twinge of sadness to take apart something so beautiful even though I know that’s what it was intended for, lol.

Hormones anyone?

Multi-tasking Saturday!

I feel a bit like a proper knitting mother today. Who says you can’t take a breastfeeding class and knit your Cuff To Cuff sweater at the same time?

IMG_0318.JPG

I’ve finished the first sleeve just knitting in class and cast on the body stitches. Not to mention learned a million things about nursing. I call this day a win!

Happy Knitting!!

FO Friday: Summer Canning

My feet and I survived our canning session last weekend!

What were my spoils you ask?

– 11 pints of brown sugar/cinnamon apple sauce
– 5 full pints and 11 1/2 pints of apple jelly

IMG_0213.JPG

And 16 glorious pints of tomato sauce!!

IMG_0225.JPG

I’d still like to put up more salsa and tomato sauce but that will be schedule and pregnancy permitting. Just going with the flow at this point!

What’s in your canner lately?

Nursery Additions

While I consider myself very crafty…I’m not very artistic. Like not at all, lol. I knew what kind of nursery I wanted. Lots of warm browns, greens, and yellows. I just love those colors together and we don’t know what Jellybean is (boy/girl) I thought that would make a warm and inviting nursery.

So far we have picked furniture with either dark black/brown or cherry finish. Not everything is matchy/matchy. And I love the “home” feel of it so far. Everything coordinates but isn’t all the same either. The walls were already a nice warm tan color so bonus of no painting!! (I most definitely hate painting, lol). My momma aka Grandma is making coordinating curtains and bassinet layette from fabric we picked out. All that left me was the wall decor.

So to Etsy I went and what a deep rabbit hole I found! I don’t really have a traditional theme in mind like monkeys/owls/etc. I just wanted a mix of photos, fabrics, and art pieces that represent the hubby and I and what we want for Jellybean. After much deliberation…..I found my wall art. And I’m now sharing with you!

First up, a homage to my husband’s love of music…and second a little love shout out to Jellybean….

Now I am anxiously tracking and awaiting the arrival of these packages!! Then hopefully with the help of the hubby I can get them hung and share some nursery FO photos with you guys!!

I’m curious. Did you choose a specific theme for your nurseries or did you just go with the flow?
