A Tale Of Two Musselburghs

I seem to have fallen off the knitting world for a bit. I wish I could tell you why but it was all just a bit much. So I took some time and space to do nothing. It was glorious

I really haven’t had much crafting mojo at all. I did manage a little knitting on my pair of Musselburgh hats. The Variegated one is definitely getting more love. I am at around 12/13 inches of stockinette. I need to get to 20/21 depending on how my yarn hold up.

My Christmas Musselburgh has languished a bit more. It has a couple inches added but not that much measurable progress. It is pretty and sparkly though.

I have a feeling at this point, the variegated one will get all the love since it is closer to being done. I just feel like that’s how my brain is going to work. Either way, I will eventually have two finished hats!

Happy Knitting!

FO Friday: Windowpanes

My Windowpanes is dry, seamed and ready for a cold wind!

Pattern: Windowpanes by Jill Ramos (Ravelry link)

Yarns: K-Zip Knits Waterfront Worsted in Sterling and Blacklight

Needles: US9s

This cowl turned out to be a decent size. It is on the smaller side and I didn’t gauge swatch so I’m not surprised. But its warm, soft and very serviceable. I am still deciding if this will be a keeper or a gift.

Happy Knitting!!

Blocking By The Fire

My Windowpanes cowl just sort of flew off the needles! It probably helps that it is worsted weight yarn and the stitch count decreases as you go.

I still have the live stitches on the needs that will need grafted to the short section on the bottom right. I used my wires to stretch the daylights out of this as I am worried the neck opening will be small.

It’s now drying by the fire, so I am hoping it dries quickly and I can finish this one up! Happy Knitting!!

Treasure Box

I was tempted by the recent sale by Nomad Yarns and their mystery yarn box. I did this one before and it was good but this time it was GREAT!

This box came with two sets of needles, one skein of commercial sock yarn, one skein of commercial worsted and a whole smattering of the Nomad Yarns hand dyed yarns. There is some cashmere blend worsted, yak sock, tweed sock, 100% silk lace and some small samples.

I can’t stop thinking bout the tweed sock yarn. It consists of 5 minis in a fade that reminds me of Captain Planet. I need to do a pattern dive and see what I can come up with to make with that fun yarn. Happy Knitting!!

WIP Wednesday: Variegated Musselburgh

I have been plodding along with my Variegated Musselburgh. The yarn is really playing well with this pattern. I am getting nice color dispersion and very little pooling or flashing.

I still have like a bazillion inches to knit of course. But this project feels nice just to have around when I need. A unexpected bonus are the blips of black speckles that show up occasionally. I do think this will end up in the gift pile.

Sometimes you just need a fun knit with no plan. Happy Knitting!!

Tiny Wee Things

I managed to create some more cute tiny things. This is a Tiny Tree Sock and a Wee Sweater from Imagined Landscapes.

This is the day two color of my Chromatic Yarns 2021 Advent Calendar. It’s a lovely tonal green color and I barely use any yarn at all to make these. They are a bit fiddly and usually take a full evening plus a little to finish both.

I still have 22 days to go, lol. But I feel a garland coming in my future! Happy Knitting!!

Windowpanes Progress

I mean

I think I have finally got the hang of my Windowpanes cowl. I had a zoom knit night this past weekend and cranked out several pattern repeats.

I am SUPER glad that this gets grafted at the end. The slipped stitches are causing some curling. Now, I know blocking will also help some as well. For now I’m just cruising in this pattern until I hit 7 inches of finished fabric.

Happy Knitting!!

2021 Stitchmas

I have a Corner of Craft/Chromatic yarns addiction. I just love her aesthetic and like to use my money to support small creative businesses. In addition to her 2021 Advent calendar, I also snagged her 12 days of Stitchmas package. It was 6 minis and 6 stitch markers opened starting after Christmas.

I even was a good kid and figured out how to label all the minis so I can keep track of the colorway names. Do I have a plan for these? No I do not, into my memory blanket bag they will go!

I do have plans to use the stitch markers. I am really gravitating to the earring back clasp stitch markers as my go-to. They can easily go from stitch marker to progress keeper and back. I think my favorite is the snowman mug of cocoa.

Do you have a favorite?

Christmas Musselburgh Flashing

My Christmas Musselburgh is growing here and there. I managed to get fully past the increases and into the body of the hat. It’s great autopilot knitting but also not super exciting now that Christmas has long passed.

I am using hand dyed yarn from Moonstone Dyeworks. And is with all hand dyed yarn, you run the risk of pooling and flashing. I noticed one chunk of some flashing just as I was finishing the increases. Once I got into the body, it all worked itself out.

No telling if it will happen again, I guess I’ll have to keep knitting. Note, it doesn’t bother me. I just find it a fascinating part of how hand dyed yarn, stitch count and gauge all work together to make unique objects, lol.

Happy Knitting!!

Cast On: Windowpanes

If you have been following my blog this week, you might have keened that I have a case of Cast-On-Itis, lol. Next up is the project I had intended to be my Christmas Eve Cast On. But I didn’t get around to getting that organized thanks to germs and a lack of bandwidth. But I have sorted the cast on now!

I chose Windowpanes by Jill Ramos as its a worsted weight bandana style cowl. I pulled two coordinating skeins of worsted by K-Zip Knits from my stash. I started this once on US 9s and HATED the loose fabric. So I ripped back and started again on US 7s and that made me much happier.

I did have to use my plastic needles from WAY back when I started knitting. Not my ideal needles but I couldn’t lay hands on any other US 7s and I really just wanted to knit. The pattern is pretty straight forward and I have 7 inches of this pattern to do before moving on.

Happy Knitting!!
