Dreaming Of Spring Colors

I am dreaming of spring. In Kansas that usually means lots of wind with an extra side of wind. But the colors are tugging at my heart strings. Deep in my stash are several balls of  Bernat Cottontots Solids that is now discontinued. I really enjoy this yarn for baby projects. And I have been hording this yarn…but no more!

I’m going to cast on the Cousins Mitre Square Baby Blanket. It’s modular and join as you go. So it’s perfect for instant gratification and making decent progress on a larger blanket. The only thing is that I’m not sure I have enough yarn in the various colors to knit the colors as the pattern has laid out. But I know I can make something work. I have pink, white, yellow, brown, light blue, and teal. I’m thinking of doing the pink with the white, the yellow with the brown, and finally the teal with the blue. Or plan B will be to just make solid squares of each and play with laying out the colors. I know I will be using the teal as the border as I have the most of that.

I’m not making this for anyone in particular just for the joy of using this yarn.

  

 

Finally…Mama Vertebrae

A long time ago I set a goal for my Mama Vertebrae. I wound the yarn and got a project bag all set up. And then….nothing. I just got caught up in instant gratification projects and quick finishes that I just couldn’t be bothered with this sweater.

Well no more! I had some toddler free time the other day and pulled project out. I may  have only started and completed a few rows. But it’s a start!

Beach Glass Vanilla Socks

Earlier I mentioned that I was winding all the things while my sister was visiting. Another skein I wound up was my Mint Rain sport weight sock yarn in Beach Glass.  My sister babysat so we could go see Whisky Tango Foxtrot. Firstly the movie was AWESOME. It was funny but real and touching at the same time. I highly recommend it.

I was able to get my toe started before the movie so I could just cruise. I kept getting so wrapped up in the movie that I would forget to knit! But I did manage a couple of inches.

The yarn is pooling/flashing. I’m not sure which is which but you can see below. I can’t wait to work farther and see how this continues! It’s so different from the cake. (This is going to be one of my 2016 Sock Yarn Experiment.)

Winding All The Things!

My sister visited over her spring break so she could get some Jellybean time. This was back during the Plague in our house. It was EXTREMELY nice to have another adult around to help wrangle a snotty cranky toddler. She even gave us some time off for a date and knitting time.

Among other things I was able to get some yarn caked up for my next set of socks. I have been eyeing the Zigzagular Socks by Susie White of the Prairie Girls Knit and Spin podcast. This pattern looks fantastic in variegated yarn and would allow me to dip my toe into cabling. And their podcase is amazeballs and look forward to each episode.

 The pattern is printed, my needles gathered up, and the yarn caked. No reason not to start! I am going to modify these to toe up with an afterthought heel. Just because I know that is what works for me. I don’t think Susie will mind.

Knitting On The Go

A plague has fallen upon our house. This is my second visit to the doc in a month for ear troubles and Jellybean is back to running a fever. Just a fever no other symptoms (negative for flu, negative for strep, and no ear infections) aside from cranky and not sleeping. I feel like all I do is wipe snot off someone or something lately.

Silver lining…with all the appointments my Fantastico vanilla socks are growing!

Matching Gloves: Take Two

Last week I finished my half of the matching glove set and now I’ve got a great start on the second set.

I made several tweaks from my first pair. First, I went up to 60 total stitches and it has made a much more relaxed/average fit. Second I did a 1×1 rib because….well, I just wanted to. I have finally managed to type my “recipe” into Ravelry here. The first glove only took me two evenings and a lunch hour to complete. So I’m hopeful to have the second one done lickety split!

Sock Update: Fantastico Vanilla Socks

I’ve been consciously trying to bring my Fantastico’s with me during commutes and other car outings. Turns out if you actually knit on things they get bigger! The foot seems freakishly long. But my measurements line up with the foot template of both my husband and father, so I can’t be that far off. I guess that is what you get when knitting men’s socks. I’ve completed the heel (a gusset heel in this case) and I’m cruising up the leg. Gotta love sport weight sock yarn!

Whoops!

In a fit of knitting furvor….I failed to pay attention. I was just zooming along on mitt number two and only eyeballing it compared to mitt one. See the problem?
 

I’m like like 3/4 inch short on the second one. Enough to make my OCD brain hurt…so this happened.
  

These don’t take long to knit so I should have it fixed up in no time!

WIP Wednesday: My Fingerless Gloves

Glove number one is done save the thumb. I couldn’t find my US 1.5 dpns so I decided to save all the thumbs for last after finishing all the other mitts.

  

I like a nice long cuff that reaches back into the sleeves on my winter coat. Keeps out the drafts I tried this on and it’s a very snug but comfortable mitt for me but I have fairly slim wrists. So I’m thinking for my matching pair to go up to 60 stitches to be more forgiving.
