FO Friday: Rachelle’s Fingerless Gloves

As promised I have my fingerless gloves fixed in no time! They hit the FO pile :O)

Pattern: My own (rav notes here)

Yarn: Two Windows Dye Works (Hutchinson, KS) in variegated purple

Needles: US 2s

Size 52 stitches total
I ended up using only about 36 grams or 155 yards of fingering weight. So they don’t take much yardage at all. They are very snug with a fair bit of negative ease. Very nice fit for my bony wrists but probably a bit small for the average sized wrist. I’m still going to make a matching pair for my mother-in-law but I’ll need to go up to 58 or 60 stitches I think. They yarn was very lovely to work with. I think I should have enough left after the matching set of gloves to work a short pair of socks. That is I can find a coordinating color for the heel and cuffs.

That’s all for now! Have a great weekend and Happy Knitting!!

WIP Wednesday: My Fingerless Gloves

Glove number one is done save the thumb. I couldn’t find my US 1.5 dpns so I decided to save all the thumbs for last after finishing all the other mitts.

I like a nice long cuff that reaches back into the sleeves on my winter coat. Keeps out the drafts I tried this on and it’s a very snug but comfortable mitt for me but I have fairly slim wrists. So I’m thinking for my matching pair to go up to 60 stitches to be more forgiving.

Onward to mitt number two! Happy Knitying!!

FO Friday: Mere’s Lacy Cowl

The cowl is done! My second attempt is much improved and I’m much happier!

Pattern: Mere’s Lacy Cowl (my own improvisation)

Yarn: Lion Brand Homespun in a purple ombré

Needles: 10 1/2 US

Size: 14 inches by 12 inches

I’ve put both of these in the mail and they are winging their way to the knit worthy recipient. The cowl is perfect and stretchy and squishy. Not to mention very close to her original. I didn’t expect the color shirt as the yarn in skein was deceiving. But I thinks it’s pretty!

One thing I’ve learned….. I don’t like Homespun as much as I used to. The loose wavy plies have a tendency to split and snag on the needles. I’m seriously considering de stashing the remainder from my stash. Now, don’t get wrong, I think it’s perfectly respectable workhorse yarn. It’s not great for my hands and knitting style.

Happy Knitting!!

A Do-Over

I finished a cowl for my friend Mere last week. And I was less than pleased with my efforts to duplicate a years old project. I took it as a matter of pride. So what’s a knitter to do? I pulled some purple (her second color choice) and cast on again. This time I’m adding more stockinette in between the eyelets to better replicate the original.

I feel a bit more revived with this project but it’s still a little bit “the song remains the same”

I’ll just have to keep knitting!

So Close

Due to the unfortunate circumstances of a funeral I had a three day weekend back in my hometown. Just Jellybean and I made the trip but Aunty, Grandma, and Grandpa were there waiting. I took full advantage of the free babysitting and snagged as much sleep and knitting time as possible. My goal was to wrap up my Neon Vanilla Socks. I only needed the leg, cuff, and afterthought heel to be done…

I got sooo close. Like justan inch of ribbing and the bind off left. I’m just itching to get these done to turn in for #dcspigskinparty2015 points! I guess they shall be done soon enough and I’m not going to look the gift horse in the mouth for the extra knitting time.

I snuck in a couple extra stitches on sock #2 to see if that eased the snugness I had in #1. And to hedge my bets I sneakily had my sister try these on to see if they fit her. They did…..so these might be destined for the Christmas tree…

Happy Knitting!

Knitting and Waiting

I behaved yesterday evening. My mother and aunt went in to Joanns for a shopping trip. I waited patiently in the car with my knitting and my coffee. I got a last minute birthday party invite for a beautiful little 1 year old. I think she deserves a tutu!

By the way this project made me feel like a knitter with a capital K! I was able to go to my stash and find both the yarn I needed in coordinating colors, the printed out pattern, and a project bag to fit it in. All in under 10 minutes!  I was even able to cast on right away. Such satisfaction 🎉

Happy Knitting!

FO Friday: Blackberry Cocoon

Huzzah, the longest and most neglected WIPs of my life is done!!!20140119-084357.jpg

Pattern: Strawberry Cocoon by Bernat Design Studio

Yarn: Bernat Satin Solids in Plum Mist Heather and unidentified green

This project ended up using about 376 yards of yarn or 148 grams.

Needles: US 6s or 7s?

Time: FOREVER! I started this sometime back in 2010

Mods: I didn’t knit the full 17 or 18 inches of straight body. Seriously, I just got tired of knitting and stopped at 11 inches before moving the decreases section. This thing is knit plat and then seamed, so LOTS of purls! I also didn’t make the duplicate stitches or french knot looking dots on the leaves. Again this was because I was SERIOUSLY over this project.

20140119-084409.jpg

You have to gather or bunch up the leaves when you seam then to the main body of the cocoon. I’m not the best at seaming, but it didn’t turn out terribly!

20140119-084424.jpg

The one feature that I do love about this now that I’m done is that this is SUPER soft thanks to the satin yarn. And look at all those wonderfully nubby P3tog bits! I love to run my fingers over them!

I do have a great feeling of accomplishment getting this out of the WIP pile. No clue what I will do with this either. But for now it’s washed, blocked, dry, and folded in my FO storage bin in my basement.

What is the longest something has lingered in your WIP pile without being frogged?

WIP and FO Object Wednesday: Appi Slopes #2

My friend squealed over the sight of my first Appi Slopes hat. And the pattern is quite addicting, so I cast on another. It just flew off the needles!

Project: Appi Slopes (#2) by Melissa Mall

20140115-155656.jpg

Needles: US 4

Yarn: Knit Picks Comfy Sport in Duchess Heather

I used 196.8 yards or 60 grams. That is just about 1.2 of the teeny skeins.

20140115-155826.jpg

I did one mod this time. With all the trouble I had with seeing the brim closed last time, I elected to knit the brim together before moving to the stockinette section. My Rav notes on this are here.

It worked okay….but the plastic brim made it hard to knit around the first few rows and my stitches at the join are wonky looking. BUT….it’s very stretchy and flexible. I’m calling this one a draw.

(Sorry about the photos…it’s dark too fast this time of year. So I took these in my guest bath because it has the best light I can manage in the house)

This was #4 for 2014 Stashbustin’

Happy knitting!!

Yarn Sale: part one

I have been seriously de-stashing in 2013. But alas even with as fast as my fingers can knit….I still have a crap load of yarn. So this weekend I’m taking a hard look at my “stash” and deciding what I will and won’t use.

Good news for you guys??? I’m going to post several updates today with lots of yarn for sale. At a DEEP discount, I might add. Not all of it has labels anymore but I will do my best to give good specifications and descriptions. If you see something you like, leave a comment with your name and email and I’ll message you about the lot. I will only be accepting payment via Paypal. First come, first served. If someone backs out, I will move on to the next comment email according to time. Don’t leave your address or personal information in a comment. I’ll email you to get specifics so the whole internet doesn’t have to see 🙂

A Princess Turns 1!!

FO Friday!

I interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you a super adorable FO…

20130923-105434.jpg

A very special little princess turns one year old on October 31. Her momma asked for a sparkly K-state purple tutu to complete her fairy costume for her birthday.

20130923-105645.jpg

I was only too happy to oblige! It does a knitters heart good to see their knitted bits go to good homes. Happy Friday to all!!
