Yarn Chicken?

My Double Vanilla socks have been the dark horse in my knitting lately. I have been consistently picking them up during school car lines, video meetings and all the in-between times. And all of a sudden in less than a week, I have a second sock! (It really helps that it is DK weight yarn, lol!)

I have been counting my rows to try and match sock #1. But I might be playing a bit of yarn chicken with the second sock. I didn’t line up the photo very well but I still need 5 rows and a bind off on the second sock to match.

Is it really going to matter if I’m off by a row or two? No it is not. And the bonus is that I’m using really super close to 100% of this skein of yarn. No leftovers!!

Ready For Lace….Again

Yesterday was a great sunshine day and I got my In The Light (pink version) outside for a good photograph!

I have blended in the third and last color of this project. It is a OOAK (one of a kind) skein from KirbyWirby yarns. Normally she is a self-striping dyer but I think this is an experiment she put in her shop because its definitely a variegated yarn.

I’m SUPER happy with how this bright is blending in and makin up the darkest section of the project. I’m ready to start the lace section and then all have is the final knitted border that I will unravel for fringe. I’m still addicted to this project and can’t wait to have the finished item!

Ready For The Bright Pink

I had a few Zoom meeting this last couple of days where I wasn’t presenting or having to talk very much. And you know what? That is great for garter stitch knitting! In roughly two days of meeting and after bedtime knitting I am poised to add the third and last color to my In The Light (pink version)!

I am definitely a broken record but I love how well this double stranded sock yarn plays well with highly variegated and speckled yarn. It just smooths out any pooling or flashing. As a knitter I have never minded making a good pattern over and over again. This one will definitely be one for my repeat catalogue!

All The Pink Variation

My third iteration of In The Light is ADDICTIVE. I can’t put it down and I’m already adding the second color.

My first skein was a white base with rainbow speckles from Black Trillium Fibre studio. It was their Pebble Sock base in the Super Happy Fun colorway. Next up is some Knitted Witt Victory Sock in Unicorn Giggles.

The light to medium transfer is going really well. The Unicorn Giggles is just next shade darker but has some of the same rainbow speckles from the Super Happy Fun. This is the fringed version so it has a few more stitches per row than the plain version so its taking longer but I don’t mind.

I just adore how fast this project eats up yarn while still making a beautiful project! Happy Knitting!!

HO Friday: Double Vanilla Socks

Happy Friday all! Today I have a HO instead of FO, lol

This sock really flies along and I managed to complete the leg on my first Double Vanilla Sock. I had just maybe a yard or two left from the first half of the skein.

Now….this is the sock I ripped back and reknit with four extra stitches because it was very skinny. And the finished sock fits but it has no negative ease. What this means is that I could have probably done with only adding two stitches instead of four. It bothers me but not enough to rip back and redo again.

These socks will be just purposely be for tooling around the house like slippers. My next step needs to be is the get the toe of the second sock on the needles ASAP to avoid SSS (second sock syndrome).

Cast On: In The Light, Pink Version

As promised after finishing my green In The Light I promptly put a third one on the needles. This will be my pink version and I already can’t put it down.

I chose to go back to the fringed version for this one. I’m starting with a white skein with rainbow speckles from Black Trillium Fibers and then will progress to a Knitted Witt Victory sock skein in pink with rainbow sprinkles and finish up with a OOAK skein from KirbyWirby.

This bright and pink yarn is making feel more spring-like and peppy. I am enjoying the process of this pattern but I think in this case I really want the finished thing more!

One DK Weight Heel

My Double Vanilla Sock is growing much faster in its current iteration than it did in the first. The foot literally took no time at all and the heel only one evening’s worth of knitting.

At this point I decided to be smart and weight my yarn ball. After that I weighed my sock. And then did some math and pulled enough yarn off the ball to have split the skein in half. This was done as a precaution and to prevent running out of yarn on sock two.

I think for this pair of socks that are likely to be worn as house slippers, I will knit the leg largely in rib. This will give a nice snug fit and perhaps keep the sock on my foot while its not going to be a in a shoe.

Outdoor Sock

Spring appears to be here in full swing, even though we had snow in April. I slipped outdoors while PB was napping and the boys were watching a marvel movie. To accompany I chose my Double Vanilla Socks.

I had lemonade, shade, knitting and a podcast in my ears. It was far too fleeting but enjoyable. I managed roughly three inches of sock foot redo after I had ripped all the way back to the toe. Its amazing how fast DK sock yarns works up compared to fingering weight, lol.

Well Shoot….

Some days I sure am pretty….

I was minding my own business and hibernating in my craft room/guest room working on my memory blanket. I had added an ENTIRE square using scraps from Stranded Dyeworks BFL Sock in the Antagonist colorway when I saw it. I had added the square from the wrong dang side.

If you look carefully at the grey border you can see the purl bumps where I changed colors. And those should be on the other side of the blanket, sigh. So off to the frog pond that square went.

It might have been a useful accident as I think I have a different scrap/color that I want to place there instead of the dark grey. I have a dark red and light pink combo that would look better there anyway. But I am still mad at myself for making such a bonehead move and wasting all that prime knitting time.

Going Green

My In The Light is really going green! I have progressed through the solid/tonal green section and I’ve added the third and last color.

I have been really pleased with how well these colors are marling together. It will end up a very light to dark fade. And this version is the plain version with no fringe. So this will be how the finished object will look.

I need to work a couple more rows of the garter and then I can start the lace section that finishes the shawl. If you spy carefully you will see the Corner of Craft bunny stitch marker. I’ve made a pretty good push on this since last I showed you guys.

I’m hoping to keep my focus and get this finished up soon. Not that I need a DK weight shawl in Kansas in May but I love the satisfaction of finishing a project! Happy Knitting!!
