Now The Gussets

I’ve reached the gussets of my toe-up vanilla socks!20140706-160805-58085026.jpgI’m still working a basic sock with gusset heal over 64 stitches. I’ve had a bit of a problem with laddering in between my needles. I need to concentrate and pull my stitches tightly when switching needles. If I get distracted by a show or conversation I find my tension slips and I get ladders. Not that anyone will ever notice but me. Still terribly annoying…

I do love these lovely green colors. The short stripes keep me knitting along and moving from color to color. I’ve quite enjoyed the #sockswithsarah KAL this year. Have you checked it out?

FO Friday: A Present For A Princess

Just a quick and adorable post. I have a co-worker who is incredibly awesome and he just welcomed his second granddaughter this past month. I simply adore him and couldn’t resist getting him a “grandpa gift”!

Behold, a camo knit tutu!20140706-160715-58035607.jpgPattern: Knit Tutu by Ashley Lackovic

Yarn: Knit Picks Swish Worsted in Lost Lake Heather and Red Heart Boutique Sashay in Conga

Size: 3-6 month old

Needles: US 6s

Mods: knit the waist band slightly longer for an easier fit

Happy Friday and Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday: New Vanilla Socks

Here is my new #sockswithsarah KAL project. My sock prowess is in it’s infancy so I’m sticking with self striping yarn and basic toe up vanilla sock. Sorry for the inside out pictures. I just prefer to knit socks this way. 🙂20140629-121944-44384373.jpg

Pattern: Toe Up Sock with Gusset Heal

Yarn: Knit Picks Felici in Acquarium

Needles: US 0s

Size: 68 stitch sock.

I’m on my way to filling up my sock drawer. And hopefully socks are something I can keep knitting after jellybean gets here. At least when he/she gets a little older and my post zombie haze subsides, lol. Now if I can just get more consistent on my laddering problem…

Happy Knitting!

Baby Blanket Update

Jellybean’s blanket is slowly making progress. At the last update I’d almost completed two rows. My recent sock addiction has bitten into the time I’ve spent on this project. According to my pregnancy app I’ve only got 100 days or so to get this wrapped up. I’m onto the third row as we speak.

I can sit and make 1 and 1/2 hexagons an evening. So I really just to buckle down and finish this so Jellybean has something to curl up in, lol. I think six rows should make an adequate baby blanket. That makes me just under halfway…I hope….

FO Friday: Everlasting Bagstopper

Happy FO Friday! I have finished my Everlasting Bagstopper!!

20140531-215551-78951203.jpg

The knitting was really really fast. Just about a week of evenings and one weekend. The pattern is easily memorized. Here are the details:

Pattern: Everlasting Bagstopper

Yarn: Lily Sugar N Cream Cotton in yellow

Needles: US 5 and US 10 1/2

Straps: I picked up some yellow grosgrain ribbon with white polka dots as I had no desire to knit straps, lol.20140531-215558-78958682.jpg

I used approximately 266.4 yards or 155 grams. This was about 2.2 skeins of yarn. I have oodles of this cotton hanging out in my stash and this was a GREAT stash-busting project! This would be a pattern I’d definitely repeat, especially for a quick gift knit.

Happy Friday!

FO Friday: Barley

It’s been EONS since I have had a FO to show. I finished my first hat for Jellybean!

Pattern: Barley by Tin Can Knits

Yarn: Knit Picks Brava Worsted in Wine

Needles: US 8

Size: infant20140524-140322-50602585.jpg

This was a PERFECT pregnancy brain project. Easy to follow directions and a quick knit for that instant gratification! I only used 27 grams or 60 yards of yarn. After a good wash and block this hat should have enough stretch to get Jellybean through next winter!

20140524-140323-50603070.jpg

I even have enough yarn to cast on for an adult size version so the hubby and I can have a hat to match Jellybean. (I’m more excited than the hubby if you can imagine that!)

Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday: Everlasting Bag Stopper

Pregnancy has DEFINITELY slowed down my knitting mojo. Between un-fun symptoms and pregnancy brain….I just can’t handle my normal volume or pattern complexity. But I hate having idle hands. So I perused my Rav queue and found a basic in-the-round cotton market bag.

Pattern: Everlasting Bag Stopper by Amy Singer

Yarn: Lily Sugar’n Cream in Yellow20140524-140221-50541005.jpg

The bottom of the bag is worked back and forth in garter stitch on very small needles (US 5s) and then you pick up around the edges of your rectangle to begin working in the round.

20140524-140221-50541573.jpgThen you switch to larger needles (US 10 1/2) and begin the lace section. This pattern is ULTRA easy to memorize. And who doesn’t love working in the round and not having to mess with purls, lol!

The only part of this project not knitted is the handle. The pattern calls for coordinating grosgrain ribbon or other strap material to be sewn to the top edge of your finished bag. Not sure which way I am going to go with this project.

Any suggestions?

WIP Wednesday: Barley

Balancing my fatigue/all the time mornning sickness and desire to make adorable things for Jellybean is killing me! I have barely started my hexi-ghan. And by barely starting, I mean I have picked out two colors to alternate stripes in red-ish cotton and purple cotton.

Maybe I need something smaller and portable? After my success with Rye by Tin Can Knits, I thought about Barley by the same designer….

A nice worsted weight project with some neat design elements without being too masculine or feminine. Maybe in some nice Knit Picks Brava Worsted in a nice deep wine color?

Happy Wednesday!

WIP Wednesday: A Plain Rye Sock

I have been woefully neglectfull of my #SockswithSarah KAL. My knitting mojo kind of went out the window during February and March. All I could manage was a few stitches here and there and only every so often.

But over time those stitches add up! At my last update on this sock I was halfway down the leg. Now I’ve turned the heel and I’m working down the foot.

20140330-135609.jpg

This project is mindless and portable….and right up my alley at the moment. I’m not into committing to a huge WIP right now and I DEFINITELY don’t want to have to think too hard!

What is your go-to mindless knitting project?

FO Friday: Close Knit Waffle Hat

Tah Dah! A FO for your Friday20140217-123626.jpg

This FO has been done for a while, but I didn’t get around to photographing it until this week. Here are the details:

Pattern: Close Knit Waffle Hat by Leah Bandstra

Yarn: Bernat Bamboo Natural Blends in Linen

Needles: US 10 16″ circular and US 10 dpns

Mods: I added 6? stitches to the total count. It now fits easily over my head and is almost more of a slouch hat than a beanie. Totally love this change!

20140217-123639.jpg

This hat only took 1.28 skeins or 80.6 yards (77 grams) of bulky yarn. I would also say if I had worked on this monogamously it would have been a CRAZY fast knit. But I kept picking it up and putting it back away.

20140217-123652.jpg

The softness alone is to die for! The fabric created does have a lot of weight and drape. Probably not a great yarn for garments but GREAT for accessories worn close to the skin!

Happy Knitting!
