Ladder Down, Ladder Up

I am still cruising through my Into The Light shawl and I’m in the second color section. I have been noticing that if I get too distracted by my TV show or children that I don’t always get both strands of yarn that I’m using. So I’m getting mistakes in my garter.

They bother me so I have been laddering back down fixing them with my double ended crochet hook. Fixing garter takes a little more brain power than stockinette but I have missed enough strands that this project is giving me lots of practice.

And by the time I’m done you would never know there was a mistake.

I’m really crushing on this project. The color fade is beautiful and it’s really easy to work. I can’t wait to get the third and last color added to get the full effect.

Fading The First Color

Okay, I admit, the Into The Light shawl is completely addictive and I can’t put it down!

I have finished the first color section and I just added the second color in a fading section. I really like this pattern as the fading instructions are really easy to follow. And the i-cord like edge helps me carry my yarn up the edge to reduce ends.

The pattern has two versions, a fringed version and a plain version. I think I am going to go for gusto and do the fringed version. Which is a little out of my norm but I am here for it. It’s very mentally satisfying to see how fast holding sock yarn double eats up the yarn cake. I am slowing down a little as the rows do get longer every other row.

Coffee and Toxic Oreo Vanilla Socks

Socks in the wild!! I managed to snag a rotation for going in to my physical work office so my knitting got to leave the house (with a mask, lol)!

Zoom meetings have been really good for my zen knitting of stockinette in the round. My Toxic Oreo Vanilla socks have a decent sized foot going!! And the speckles do not disappoint as Lemonade Shop yarns really have this down to a science.

I should be about an inch away from starting the gusset heel. I have, over the years, figured out how to work the toe up gusset heel and stay on my nine inch circular needle. The needles do get a little full but its manageable for me and it saves me from transferring live stitches.

At the rate I am casting on socks I am going to need a bigger sock drawer! Happy Knitting!!

Carbon Sprinkle Heels

Both of my Carbon Sprinkles Vanilla Sock tubes are now complete!

They ended up matching quite nicely to one another. Not a requirement for me but a pleasant outcome. I need to install the afterthought heels and I will have the cutest socks to add to my drawer.

I do plan to use the striping yarn to do the heels. I will do some color management to make sure the heel placement falls in the middle of the speckled stripe and then start the yarn for the heel at a corresponding place. Usually I can finish the heels in two or three evenings? We shall see…

Cast On: Mycroft

I finally carved out time to get my Mycroft on to the needles. This was supposed to be my birthday cast on but after reading the pattern I quickly realized I didn’t have the brain space on my birthday to deal with the short rows.

And I was correct, this was a brain bending cast on and first rows. I had the printed pattern and I had cross out tiny sections of the written directions as I went. That, and I counted ALL THE TIME. And this is only the first short row. I have like so many more to do.

I have put this back in the bag for when I can come up for air and work on this one uninterrupted. Totally invested in this project and it looks to get easier after the short rows….but I gotta get there first, lol.

Cast On: Dumpster Fire 2020

I couldn’t help myself. I may have ordered a Dumpster Fire kit from Frabjous Fibers/Wonderland Yarns. And now I have knit all the pieces to the Kino Knits 2020 Dumpster Fire ornament. (Rav link)

This yarn is simply wonderful and the pieces very much flew off my needles in a single evening. I have soaked and blocked them into their respective shapes. Now I just have to wait for them to dry so I can assemble. Not really looking to the duplicate stitching of the year but I shall persevere!

Almost There Sand Castle Cashmere Vanilla Socks

I’m down to the last few rows of cuff on my Sand Castle Cashmere Vanilla Socks!

The heel turn is complete and I muddled my through the second leg. The increases may not be in the exact same places as sock number one but there are for sure the same number of increases.

I’m already scheming my next sock cast on for when these are done! Happy Knitting!!

A Second Sand Castle Sock

After all the fiddly toy knitting and seaming last week I wanted to get back into my plain old relaxing sock knitting. So I picked up my Sand Castle Cashmere Socks over the weekend.

I have the second sock to a place where I am ready to start the second heel. I made sure not to over run or over knit this time. No tinking back! This has been my evening knitting project here lately so it is getting most of my knitting time. Maybe I’ll have finished socks soon?

Two Eyes Short Of A Yoda

Baby Yoda now has arms and hands! This whole toy is knit flat seamed up which makes it easy to knit and fiddly to assemble. The arms turned out pretty good but I am considering starching the ears to make them more “yoda-like”.

Next up….I need to dig through my odds and bits to figure out two eyes and a nose. Then this can be wrapped up and gifted!

Now For Yoda’s Sweater

I managed dig around in my stash and come up with some Baby Yoda sweater yarn. I ended up using some Knit Picks Swish in squirrel heather held double to make a “bulky” yarn. The color isn’t quite as cream as the pattern and its not a true bulky yarn but I think its suitable enough.

I still need to fiddle with placement and get the coat to roll and overlap nicely. Baby Yoda has a really cozy oversized sweater look. I think I will use ends to tack the sweater to the body….just in case PB or Jellybean get any ideas of undressing him.

Next up….I need to work out the arms….
